Thanks again for all the welcomes. I thought I might start a new thread asking people's opinion re the best places in Tassie to visit. We are booked on the ferry on the 12th Dec and plan to spend a couple of months down there. My sister moved to Margate (about 40 minutes south of Hobart) 5 years ago and I haven't seen her for 4 years so VERY excited to see her and spend Christmas with her and the family. She pretty much stays in her locale so can't really advise on the best places to vist anywhere 50km of where she lives, so any info is greatly appreciated!
Hi Helenlouise, after spending a month down in Tassie we love the place Strahn in particular followed by. Stanley just enjoy the beauty of the place you will find you will run out of time
Beautiful all over.We lived on the North West coast for a couple of years, rugged, pure, quiet, historic.Enjoy your stay in Tassie but be careful of Mr Boag, bad and Evil,..........A top drop once it gets used to you.Cheers Ibbo.
There are just too many lovely places in Tassie. Sheffield area and Stanley were beautiful areas, Freyciinet and Bridport, Strahan, Cradle Mountain. In fact its all beautiful .
The only place we did not like was Queeenstown but it had some interesting places to see. Its an insight into what man can do to the environment. We are not greenies but we felt very sad when we saw that place.
White Beach/Nubeena is pleasant spot to stay to explore the Tasman Peninsula, which is much more than just Port Arthur. Good day walks and wonderful scenery at Cradle Mountain - campground there. Is a National Park campground at Mt Field, which is also a great base for day trips in the area.
Hi again guys, I forgot to mention; purchase a national parks pass on board the ferry to save money. If you decide to do the Gordon river/Hells gate ferry cruise in Strahan you will save 10% by purchasing at ferry terminal. (other agencies are on commission and charge more)
Perhaps forum members could post further details on savings to be had?
The east coast is great too. Bay of Fires at Binnalong Bay, Cheese factory at Pyengana and don't miss the Pub in the Paddock, also at Pyengana where you can give Priscilla the pig a beer. (1% beer, 99% water but she loves it.)
