Coromal Transformer 450 Info please.

Hi fellow GNs,

First time posting, but an avid follower of the site for months now. We are virgin caravaners, so please be gentle with us. We purchased a Coromal Silohette 2nd hand, and after a couple of short trips have found that these old bones are having a bit of trouble setting it up. Otherwise love the concept of the extended ends and push out kitchen. Does anyone out there own or  may have heard about the Coromal Transformer 450? Would love some first hand information, in particular about leakage problems if any and just how difficult or easy it is to set up. Our nearset Coromal dealer is in Townsville. This retired teacher and retired banana farmer are dead keen to hit the open road and be one of them there "Road blocks" my kids refer to!

Hi John. No, the one we are considering but can not view unless we go to Sunshine Coast, is a poptop with the beds dropping down from either end thus extending the living area in the van and removing the cource of snoring a bit further away ( God bless him). Thanks so much for answering my very first request-I feel like one of the crowd now'

Welcome Homer and Marg, I have taken the liberty of putting this link on here with a pic of the Transformer;

http://www.coromalcaravans.com/poptop_transforma.htm

My concern would be heating and cooling with the canvas ends, and also folding down wet if the sides get wet.

I was lucky enough to have a tour of the Coromal factory in Forrestfield, WA and was very impressed with their production line and the quality of their product generally.

At the time, I was thinking about the Magnum, also about 450 from memory, as well as the standard one they were building a semi off road one with higher clearance and sloped upwards rear for ditches etc, I was told it was a special order.

Have you looked at the Magnum range?  Both the ones I looked at were single bed plans.

Thanks Duh. I take on board what you are saying about the insulation and folding up when wet. Hopefully we can get some more opinions before we make our decision. Probably a good point because we are planning the big WA and southern trip in winter next year. We live in tropical NQ and it is hard to imagine how cold it will get as we move farther away from the North. We have found the finish on the Coromal of a high standard.

Thanks again

No worries Homer and Marg,

If you are starting your trip in winter, I would go across the top and leave south until the end of September if possible.

Generally, north in Oz around May to September, then south around late September to April......

Roughly use the Tropic of Capricorn as the dividing line for north/south climes....

In WA, it is accepted by most that from and including Carnarvon is the north (winter escape, called the "Granny Season" over here) and south of Carnarvon (summer locations, avoiding the norther tropical cyclones and the humidity etc).

Another thing to consider too with the canvas ends is flapping canvas in high winds (especially when trying to sleep) and security (can be slashed with a knife) not being alarmist but there was an article I read one time about these thieves stealing their way around Australia up north and slitting canvas sided RV's both when the owners had gone out and while they were asleep......may have been a one off, but worth considering.

A message for Kevin from Victoria who sent me a PM about his Coromal transformer back in October 2012. In swopping from a laptop to this iPad, I have managed to lose your email. We are currently in the area where you live and we would like to take you up on the offer to call in and have a chat with you. We bought a Coromal transforma and take delivery in mid February. If possible could you please contact me again?
Thanks
Homer and Marge
