Whatever your own stance over the continuing debate over CP's and Freecamping, one thing is abundantly clear. There will be lots more Caravanners, campers and Motorhomes on the road in the next few years as more and more "Babyboomers" retire.
With many CP owners petitioning councils to close'Showground' and freecamping sites it will reach the stage when there will not be enough sites available especially at Peak holiday times and in mining areas.
What then?
Maybe the RV friendly towns will reap the benefits of forward planning, and looking at the projections by the Caravan and Motorhome manufacturers there is going to be a substantial increase in numbers.
Sometimes logic is lost in the emotive debates going on.
I agree with what you say - if the trend continues, and unless the financial situation of the world really deteriorates, there will be more "RVers" in coming years. During the "peak period" (May-Sept) there is already a shortage of van sites in the 'popular' areas.
However, I did say this in another post -
Perhaps if CMCA (and its members) got the Australian Map out of the cupboard and marked on that map the places that are "so unwelcoming" it would become very apparent, that it is only a very small percentage of this wondrous land that "travelling bank accounts" have trouble with.
I rarely travel to 'popular' (or tourist-style) areas so perhaps I am enjoying a better than 'average' travelling 'experience'.
Perhaps, also, I am out of touch with the rest of the GN travellers.
Cheers - John

I think the only ones that can't forsee this happening in the near future are the caravan parks & the towns that wish to be unfriendly.
We dont expect every thing for nothing, as these facilitys have to be constructed, maintained & cleaned by some one, either councils or main roads athority.
If there were more campgrounds at a reasonable cost then more people would use them.
If the caravan parks assoc, are lobbing to have ALL rest areas closed, are they big enough to take on the RTA,or the equivellent in each state. when the RTA provides the road side rest areas for the saftey & convience of travellers.
Just imagine if there were no rest areas, all the transport companies linning up at the caravan parks for a nights rest.LOL
Mareeba, as quoted in another post as being RV friendly, yes we were there this year at the rodeo grounds, a moderate tarrif & found it to be a great place to base your self for day trips, a very friendly town with good facilities. I think many places could take a few lessons from them.

There has been some discussion on this and other forums regarding this issue and like others we have experienced the shortage of available sites in caravan parks obviously in peak times but it is also becoming an issue at times outside of peak periods especially in areas where there is mining activity close by. there are options to get the message discussed where it counts through organisations such as CMCA and as I do through the Tourist Information centres who have assured me that comments on issues like this are passed on to both local tourism groups and to local council when made by concerned tourists.
Another option would be for Cindy to conduct a survey of our members and visitors making the results available to the State Tourism people and to members, and then those of us who are concerned can use this information in talking to councils, tourism organisations and friends as well as providing additional information to members on Councils that do not support "RVers" remember there are a lot of us out there and word of mouth can be an incredibly strong and useful tool to effect change.
