Was thinking about this last night and claim to the conclusion.
Some nomads or people wanting to be nomads spend so much time gathering everything they think they might need, they end up never getting out there or putting back their trip by months or years. It has taken them that long to get the best of everything, and cost them that much to have everything perfect.
Just get out there and enjoy, (my dream too). You don't need the best of everything with everything in its right place. Throw a few things in the van and get going.
Some gadgets can make your life easier, but... I saw a couple who towed an extra covered in trailer behind their motorhome just to hold all their "Appliances". Makes you wonder.

Thats what I mean Gerty. Just too much when one item will do the job. The extra money paid out for it all could have paid for a whole trips fuel. I've been guilty of it myself. Bought stuff I've never used and dropped it off at the opshop when I realised it wasn't needed.
Some people need the basics, others need everything to be comfortable.
I also, reckon we have too many gadjets, though I love playing with new toys. Its good if they work, but alot don,t seem to last all that long.I suppose all of us would like a simpler life, on the road or otherwise. Its ggod fun trying to make them work. See ya soon, Bill
you are right marj .my new mh will be ready for pick up on 18 december. It has taker me 12 months to make the decision.spent a lot of time thinking about what would be needed .a alot money is required to buy all the bits and peices, money thay could be used elsewhere.I must agree with wombat and that is the wife is number one .she is my sole mate financial controller and travelling companion for always .a little bit sooky of me.like I said 12 months wasted when I could have been out there already enjoying this great country.the bbq and laptop are my other 2 priorities. anything else can be picked up as needed....Mongrel
I know I have bought bits and not used them, have lots of electronic connections and found I have doubled up and also if I had gone the 12 volt way ealier could have saved myself a lot of money and not needed such a bag full of cords that get tangled when I go through them.
Also just how much dressing up of your travelling home is really necessary. I would love to get Myrtle a good paint to brighten her up but thats not going to make her go any better. There are a couple of little fix it jobs that need to be fixed first although I can travel quite safely without them. So do you really need to fix everything first or enjoy the road with a few little bits that are not quite perfect?
We spent this week sorting out all the stuff we never use and it has all gone. No gadgets. No slow cookers. No Coffee machine. No portable BBQ. The extra coffee mugs in case anyone called in for coffee- gone. Television left behind.
hit the road this morning, and this evening we are finding what we will live without tonight..... Pj's for me, and those 2 extra pillows which must still be in the spare room at home. No dessert either .. That must still be in the fridge at home.
I'm more worried about no PJ's. How are you going to manage Rosie??
I tell you it was cold in Dunnedoo last night!
Slept in trackies and jumper, so survived. Need to sort it out today Marj.
This must be the best night sky I have ever seen. Trillion stars light a cloudless sky. I know the Warrenbungles are known for sky watching but it was truly extraordinary!

I'm going thru our van too and getting rid of 'stuff' not used on the last trip. Going thru the back of the ute too. It's surprising the things we toss in thinking it may come in handy.
Have a repairs gadget box with things I might need for basic repairs etc and it is growing but the thing that I take out today according to Murphy's law is the first thing I will need tomorrow might get game one day.

I'm sure you will come across a good shop somewhere Rosie to get some new PJs and maybe the pillows you forgot also. I have an under back seat compartment full of gadgets for repairs etc. Oil, Valve replacement additive, spanners. Insect Mesh for the windows. stanley knife, car polish, just to name a few. Nothing gets thrown out of there even if I haven't used it lately. If I'm looking for anything in that category that is where I look.

I have found a new use for the TV. We haven't used it this trip for watching (so far) but it still comes as it is lightweight and....it is a great screen between me and my hubby's CPAP machine ....lol ....stops the cold air from the airvent on his mask hitting me like a southerly during the night! (We have single beds and it sits on the cupboard between us!) So, thermal pot may not have come this trip, but the TV still comes. Yes, we carry a lot of unnecessary 'stuff' around with us throughout life. I did the van cleanout in May. Made it lighter for sure.
