Aldi inverter generators.

I was in Aldi the other week and they had inverter generators for $345.  Had a sign on the side saying "suitable for use with a computer".  Did anyone buy one?  If so whats the performance like?  They also had porta potties for about $70.00, I thought that was a good buy also, though I dont really need a performance report on those...LOL

No but I bought a new 4.4 KVA genny off Ebay for $495 Runs my aircon , microwave at the same time. Bought a 600-1200 watt inverter from Aldi for $60 and it works a treat

Pinto, I also bought a 4.4geny off EBay earlier this year, yes runs the air on and heats the hot water at the same. Just watch the fuel hose from the pump, had to replace mine.
Pete, have met quite a few Grey Nomads with 4.4 EBay generators.

More than happy with my Ebay 4.4 as well. Happily runs my 200A inverter welder, angle grinders & other power tools that I intend to take with us on our travels (emergency repairs if required or bit of part time work) plus the aircon / microwave if required. Two year warranty & sure, I've grave doubts it will last as long as a Honda or Yamaha, but I can buy four or five of these for one of them. The remote stop/start has proven to be handy as well.

No, the Inverter Generators are one unit, they put out pure sine wave that is better for most electrics.

Without getting too "techie", older style generators were critical in regard to speed (rpm) in order to maintain a constant 50Hz frequency. This was a bit of a challenge when the load was often changing. The output, whilst it was a sine wave, was not all that pure. (A bit of techie talk... I've observed the output of some generators (35kva and 50kva units) on an oscilloscope and noticed what appears to be significant 2nd harmonic distortion.)

Modern inverter style generators use a lighter weight and more efficient flywheel alternator to generate the electric current (notionally similar to a car's alternator apart from the flywheel aspect) which is then processed by a pure sine wave inverter to deliver a stable voltage and frequency and a cleaner waveform.

(Techies please note this is not intended to be a technical treatise, just a simple overview of the topic)

While it's not the super compact lunchbox encased super quiet model, the price is right, this weekend aldi have a 3500W (3200W continuous) "Pure Sinewave" generator with 3 YR warranty for $400. Just as a comparison I run my caravan aircon from a 2000W (1600W continuous workzone) and it just covers it.

A swine inverter is one of those things that turn a pig into bacon, or is that a swine converter.

I can't, for the life of me, remember now which one is which but, for sure, the generator part makes the bacon and the swine are no longer required here.
