Looking for RV friendly townships

Hi,

I am a full time nomad and usually post on the Solo Forum but would like a larger audience for this post.

I am driving a Hi Ace so fitting into small spaces is no problem.

My lifestyle is following the sun and am currently in Gayndah travelling south.

I am looking for RV friendly townships meeting the following criteria:-

Free campsite within 1km of town, ideally on the edge of town.

Based on water either river, dam, lake or weir.

Allowed camping of at least a week.

Located in Queensland, NSW or Victoria.

Internet availability.

Plus any other feature making for a happy camping experience, I will be in North Qld in winter and as far south as Victoria in the summer.

This year I willl be in Tassie from the end of November to mid January so any input for there will be useful.

Thanks for any help in compiling my forthcoming itinery,

John

Hey John

Can't help you with your request, however just a short note to thank you for coming on board and following us  @ The Retro Roamers. Been following your travels since day one, and following you very closely at the moment, as we will be leaving Cairns after the school holidays, and will be traveling the same route as your southern trek.

Enjoy your updates.

Safe travels

We are definately going to try Bingara Riverside Camping

http://nannapopnsw.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/30th-october-2011-bingara-riverside.html

http://www.caravancaravan.com.au/entity/bingara-riverside-camping-area/nsw

We haven't stayed there yet but went for a drive-by at Easter and it looked really nice.

There is also camping on the Dumaresq River at Texas - i think 14 days - it is an RV friendly town

http://www.cmca.net.au/pages/motorhoming_information/cmca_schemes/rv_friendly/Texas.php

We stayed at Lee's Reserve out of Goondiwindi (a bit far according to your specs - 30km)
It was very nice - pic is the view from out campsite.

There are a number around the Goondiwindi area.

Texas - on the border of NSW and QLD - on a river, 1k from town - showers, water and dump point available in town.

It is really worthwhile joining CMCA. They publish a monthly Magazine with updated information on Free Camping, Dump Points RV friendly towns etc, and an annual publication The Wanderer's Mate that carries all this information. This info can also be downloaded from their web site. For $40.00 annually, it's a good deal.

Bingara a lovely place to stay. Need to be self sufficient. More than 1km from the township. Great bakery and supermarket.

Lees Reserve
Nearest Town: Goondiwindi 30km
Access: From the Goondiwindi Post
Office, travel east on Marshall St to the
large roundabout. Take the Border Rivers
Tourist Drive (3) Exit. Then travel 29km.
Dry weather access only. Narrow access
to river.
Comments: Situated on Dumaresq River.

I personally like Dumeresq Dam just outside Armidale in NSW. A litle bit further out of town than 1km but quiet as no power poats are allowed on dam. Also Theodore (Qld) is nice & friendly & on river & just a walk into town

Tasmania has released a provisional camping report, Its on Google, Where you can park for free,

Tasmania welcomes tourists and camping,

Not like some councils in some states that are only interested in making dollars for themselves, Not realizing they are stopping tourism to their localitys.

brickies,

There are many ways to define a RV friendly town but for this thread I spelled out my criteria in the first post.

I am looking for RV friendly townships meeting the following criteria:-

Free campsite within 1km of town, ideally on the edge of town.

Based on water either river, dam, lake or weir.

Allowed camping of at least a week.

Hi ChrisandPeter.  All you have to do is click on "Enter" as soon as you finish typing the Link .  All I did with these was Select, and Copy and Paste them, then click "Enter".

Cheers,

Sheba.

Yeoeleven, I know you know what you are doing, but I'm a bit concerned about you camping so close to a town... some towns are safer than others, and some arent safe at all for a solo traveller to be so near the town at night. Take care.

Blackall and Isisford both meet your criteria Yeoeleven . Both places are in Qld. .

Edit . . .. . .Actually , I think both places cost $2 / night , so on second thoughts might not fit .

Hay NSW is an RV friendly town complete with river etc but not too sure about free camps in the area but could be worth following up.

Cecil Plains Apex Park is less than a k out of town.Very nice with toilets, on the Condamine River (second pic).
Just spent 2 nights there.
Lots of other travellers - very friendly.
The locals come to fish during the day but don't seem to be around at night - all very quiet, everyone tucked up by about 9pm.

Have now moved to Lemontree Weir - still on the Condamine - no facilities - better access to the river for fishing and kayaking (first pic).

Lemontree is a bit far away from a town - about halfway between Cecil Plains and Millmerrin - and it's probably a little isolated.

There is one other caravan in the section we are in and some younger people a long way up on the other side.

Spoke to the other people they said it was very quite last night - we will see - but we definately like it so far.

Darlington Point , 35kms south of Griffith NSW. .

Just out of town on the Murrumbidgie river . Good water , toilets and a dump point in town .

Shops for all the necessities , including a very good butcher .

There are several campsites along the river and the council office has maps to show you where to find them .

Weve been here for 4 nights . It's quiet and very peaceful .

Some fish in the river . Yellowbelly and cod .
