Spent a couple of hours at A&E last night

Or I should say this morning 1.30am. Knew I couldn't leave it any longer when I started shaking (cold) and my teeth were chattering. Woke son up and he took me down.

Turned out I had a Urinary Tract Infection. Was given antibiotics.

Hope you are feeling a bit better by now Marj... but Drink more water! Keeping oneself "washed out" helps prevent it and heal Urinary Tract Infections. Also see if you can get some cranberry juice, its supposed to help prevent future UTI's.

Get cranberry tablets from the health food or chemist Marj - they work really quickly, and help heaps - take them for at least a month, or as my girlfriend does make them part of your daily routine - cranberry juice is fine, but the pills seem to be more concentrated.

Nasty infection, no wonder you were'nt feeling on top of things. I vote with Gerty, drink more water...... not sure about the cranberry juice except with gin in it.

Thanks guys, still a bit shaky, won't be doing too much today. I always have a bottle of water in my hand slurping away. Didn't help this time. Will look into the cranberry tabs, might be a good idea.

And, of course, if you are on cranberry, you will be joining the jetsetters - apparently the movie stars and that lot drink it constantly. Though I still think for medical reasons, the tablets are preferable.

Oh Marj, sorry to hear you had a not so pleasant sojourn at the hospital, UTI's are no fun, have suffered with them myself quite often.

I'm with you Jules, take Cranberry Tabs everyday - nowhere near as much sugar in them as in the juice, and a lot easier to cart a small bottle around than the cartons of juice.

Shirley use to have more than her fair share of UTI's. Doctor said to drink Cranberry juice but she just did not like it.

Over the last couple of years since taking a Swisse 17,500mg Cranberry tablet every day at lunchtime she has not had one UTI.

Still getting high temps, shot back up to 38 midday,
Went into Childers with son to get groceries, found some Cranberry Tabs, have taken the first one.
Was so tired when I got back spent the afternoon snoozing on the bed.

Give the antibiotics 24 hours to kick in. If there is no change after that, go straight back to the medico- you need to change antibiotics.

Also ...stay home and in bed! Give your body a chance to heal and repair.

Do not go anywhere until you feel better!!

Yes Rosie!!
I did need some groceries, and because the antibiotics are a once a day tab had only taken the one at the hospital . Then had to go get the script made up today and have the next one with tea tonight, which I've just done.
I have to go back to doc next Friday when the course has finished for a retest. He was worried it might have been affecting my kidneys.

Just a heads up re Cranberry tablets.

Today we went to our local Chemist Warehouse store to buy some Centrum multivitamins as per their catalogue sale (ends 23/9).

We found they were selling the Swisse 17500mg 50 tablet pack for $10, a saving of around $22 per pack. Sadly they only had 4 packs, now their shelf is empty biggrin.

Worth a look, maybe even on their online catalogue.

I take cranberry tabs every night b4 bed. Having been on the receving end of uti's for ever. No probs on them.
Ural also make cranberry sachets. They are quite palatable. Hiprex is another one you can get.
Also very good
Chemist Warehouse is the best place to buy them all

I've got all of those now thanks. Hiprex, Cranberry tabs and Ural sachets.
I've been taking the cranberry tab in the morning, do you think it is better to take it at night Kaid?
Got the Cenovis Cranberry Tabs, 30 for 11.00 from Big W today. Will check out Chemist Warehouse sometime though as thats a good price Shirley.

Hope you are on the mend now Happywanderer,

I prefer to take them at night as I feel they do their work better.

But it really is a matter of personal choice

Cheers

Glad you are on the cranberry HW - perhaps they do work better at night, I take them when I take my other pill, which I take in the morning, because it gives me heartburn if I take it at night - but we are all different - makes life interesting.smile
