Has anyone had any experience with portable wind generators? We have a Kimberley Kamper and are heading off on our trip of a lifetime in February, and though we have solar I wondered if a wind generator might be a good option for when the sun isn't shining? Does anyone have any knowledge on these.. Thanks in advance.
Hi Guys, Ive had one for quite a few years, My thoughs are dont unless you intend to spend a while on the coast in WA as the wind always blows there. They can be very noisey and also can shade the sola.
I have the XAir 400 watt 3 blade thing with the tail that hangs down , makes a( little noise) a lot, when running flat chat.
Haveing said all that I did see one while in the west this year that had 6-8 blades and was very quite but only put out 150-200 watts? in a good brease.
One more sola panel would be the way to go.....or a small genny....

Have not had anything to do with them, but did see one on top of a poptop earlier this year.
It was not set up in position so I had to ask what it was, the owner said he was not impressed with it as it needed to be blowing a gale to get it working, dont know the capacity of its output either.

Thanks for that. We have solar panels and thought it may have been useful if the sun wasn't shining. Oh well..Guess we'll just have to head to the sunny places :)
I have a Rutland 913 on my boat, But inland, I dont think there would be enough wind to run it, Its a back up on the boat when the solar is in shade or on cloudy days, Plus it is 3 feet in Diameter, an extra house battery for the days with no sun,
