We are heading to the UK in 4 weeks. Hiring a motor home for 6 weeks. Have spent alot of time thinking and planning, what to do about stocking up and what to prepare for meals. I have worked out an essentials list to buy initially and a fortnight menu plan that I can use for the 6 weeks. Hopefully there will not be too much wastage The reason we decided on a motor home is that we wanted the indepenence and feedom like we have here when travelling in our van, plus we can also do some wild camping, what they call free camping. The motor home is equipped with battery power and gas central heating, shower and toilet, so we do not need to have power every night. . Also have decided to take own sheets, pillow cases, towels, and purchase a cheap doona over there rather than paying huge prices to rent bedding. Even buying camp chairs is cheaper than hiring them, will see if we need them first. When we hired a motor home in New Zealand, our first and night was in Christchurch and the Van park obviously catered for motor homes. They has a large section in their kitchen where people left items they had not used up for others to take and use. It was such a great idea. We did not discover this until the end of our trip so left alot for others to use. There was lots of condiments, jams, cereals, detergents etc. This is a bit of cooking and other issues. I have never been to England but do watch a lot of travel docos. Don't forget you may want to try out a lot of their quaint little country pubs for a local meal. I wouldn't buy too much at the beginning and just add as you think you need it along the way.
It would be fairly expensive to hire a motorhome over there I would imagine. Regardless, lucky you to get that opportunity. Have a great trip.

Friend of ours has just returned from 6 weeks in the UK and he said to eat out in the pubs is a lot cheaper than over here. It used to be the opposite, but times change.

It has worked out much cheaper hiring a motor home than staying in B&B's, it is not a peak season. Yes we will try a few pubs! Gary is sure to want a guiness in Ireland! This is our first time over there so has been a long time coming. Glenda

kesue, quite a few people have said that, and food is much cheaper as well. I am finding that the caravan parks are also cheaper with many farm stays only a couple of dollars. Glenda
