Check your spots

Went to the doc today for some scripts. While there asked him to check a spot on my back that I had scratched and it bled. He said, better do the lot.

Back in Echuca I only had the sunspots on face and hands done.

As I have many spots he got his little light out, dabbed oil on all the spots, then went to work inspecting with his little machine, then started circling with a pen. By the time he had finished I had 4 on my back and one each on the back of my legs all needing to come off.

I now have an appointment everyday of the week from 27th of this month to get them cut out and sent away for testing.

Won't be going anywhere for a while.

So guys if you think you have done a check, make sure it is really thorough.

So how come my skin specialist can say, jump up on the bed, roll over, roll over, roll over - get down, you're fine - in about 10 secs flat??? I never feel as if I've been checked properly. His bedside manner has much to be desired.

Too true. This took quite a while, he brought a nurse in for security or whatever you call it.
He popped an oil on each spot which helps show the spot up, then he looked through this light machine and checked every one. When he found a nasty one he circled it with a pen. Then when finished he brought up a picture on the computer of a body, not mine, too thin. And placed each nasty spot onto the computer in the appropriate place for reference whe nhe starts on them next week.
Maybe because it is Qld, I know they have a lot of skin clinics up here the y don't have in other states.
He said he had found 9 malignant spots in the last month, so I think he is being very vigilant.

I'm plan on going to the skin clinic at Browns Plains Marj. Apparently they have the most up to date machinery. A friend who's had a lot of spots removed recommended it. I've had a lot of 'things' cut out, but only one...on my nose, of all places...was a Basal Cell Carcinoma. I have a lot of age spots. I'm Qld born and bred so have seen a lot of sun in my youth. disbelief And very freckley skin. cry

Its a bit of a worry when they find something... or 4 somethings, but now you can feel safe that these are all being attended to Marj. Its a whole lot scarier when you dont feel your doc has taken it seriously.
My partner had to wait 4 months for his skin specialist appointment to have several "things" removed... that was a worrying time. Glad your GP will get on with it instead of having to wait for specialist appointments.

Have decided to get a 2nd opinion from a skin clinic on these 6 spots. I can't believe all of a sudden I have 6 nasty looking spots.
After talking to some of the towns people I am a bit weary as they say this particular doc is knife happy, leaving horrible scars and the pathology is coming back clear. I saw some of the scars, they are worse than my stretch marks. lol Sorry but thought that was funny if no one else did.

We reckon my Dad's doctor was also knife happy. His opinion was to not mess around with freezing or biopsies, just cut it out! But in Dad's case, the pathology always showed they were nasty. But he did a damned good job, with very little scarring.

I actually had him do the one on my nose, after a biopsy had been done at a skin clinic. I wasn't prepared to wait for an appointment at the hospital, and Dad's GP bulk billed.

My own GP has cut out a few suspect 'things', which turned out to be fine, but she does a very neat job. So my plan is to go to the a skin clinic that's been recommended to me, and if something needs to be chopped out, go back to my GP to have her do it.
