hi everyone, We need some tech help - we have a 2011 Jayco sterling (23.72.1) we have three tanks underneath, 2 fresh water (marked tank #1 and tank #2) and the third tank marked grey water tank, tank markings are on the gauge inside the van. We have the valve underneath with the arrow on it for sucking out of both tanks and facing fwd for sucking out of fwd tank and facing rear for sucking out of rear tank. I know the problem in filling with escaping air, I have already made that mistake, in thinking the tanks were full.
Anyway my question is : When I filled tanks 1 & 2 and I know I drained the grey water tank, how did water get back into the grey water tank, I have put water down the sink at the front, I have put water down the basin in the ensuite, I have put water down the drain in the shower and we have used the washing machine all water discharges outside don't figure. I can only presume that I am missing somethink but I am at a loss.
Have enclosed a few photo's hope this makes a little more sense.
D & S, sounds like you are not the original owners of the van (you may like to confirm this.) Normally water will run straight through your grey water tank unless you have the stop **** closed. I also don't know how you can get a significant meter reading from the grey water tank without that **** closed.
Jayco do not factory fit grey water tanks, that means it will have been fitted by someone with abilities unknown, so no one on the forum can say with certainty what is under your van. There are a few options to explore:
1. The original installation has never worked as you and I think it should. 2. The installation worked OK to start with and the previous owner has fiddled with it. 3. The sludge that builds up in grey water tanks is conductive and is bridging the contacts in the water level gauge sender unit.
You (or someone who understands plumbing) will have to crawl under the van and examine the situation. Check out the system to see what can be done with it. If the system looks OK then you will have to attend to the offending tank level sensor, pull it out and check/clean it. (you may have to run the van up on blocks to crawl under it.) Happy hunting.

Thank you for your reply, I climbed underneath again as suggested and I think I have it tweaked, we have three tanks - tanks, #1 and 2# are able to be sucked on together or separately and tank #3 (tagged grey water tank) can be sucked on by it self but not with the other three - I should therefore be able to use tanks 1 & 2 for drinking and cooking and tank 3 for shower and if needed w/machine. Hope this all makes sense. I have been in contact with Jayco and they have been absolutely terrific. We are the second owners of the van but I believe the couple (a little older than us) from Bendigo bought the van from Prestige Jayco in Geelong, took it home and never got to use it because the chap passed away, very sad.
Hold up a minute, I have a jayco Conquest motorhome with a three tank setup, #1 and #2 are fresh water, #3 is grey water, which is the water from the shower, hand basin and sink. In my setup tank #3 is a holding tank for used (waste) water) and is gravity drained. Check where your sower/sink water drains to.
Bob, there have been recent reports on other forums that Jayco will not fit grey water tanks because Jayco reckons that too few want or ask for them. I can see that motorhomes could be treated differently as their owners expect them in their motorhomes.
Is there anyone out there with more up to date info, have Jayco had a change of attitude to grey water tanks in vans?

It does not make sense. It looks like the third tank is not really a grey water tank but an independent fresh water tank. Could be that the water gauge is incorrectly labelled. Did you notice a 1" or bigger hose/pipe that would drain your sink into the 3rd tank when you were crawling underneath. Also did you notice a large frain pipe from this tank with a stop c-o-c-k in line with it?
A little tip you may or may not consider worthwhile - Some vanners have the 3rd/independent tank isolated from the rest of the system. They plumb this tank only to a hand operated pump at the sink. They use this water sparingly so that they have good drinking water at all times. In this way it does not matter much if they have to fill the main tanks with poor quality water.

Thats how our van is setup, 3rd water tank ( drinking water only) is separate from the main 2 tanks and connected to a handpump.
don't figure. I can only presume that I am missing somethink but I am at a loss
