Wirraway Motorhomes.

Hi,

Has anybody had any experience or know anything good or bad about Wirraway Motorhomes. My son put me on to them and thought it might be a good alternative to a Winnebago. Something to think about anyways. I have looked at the website and done some intial investigations, just wondering if out anybody has seen one or is using one. Would love some feedback wether good or bad.

I know that they only build 10 per year, and they seemingly are holding their value well. On a Merc chassis. Built in Mildura.

Thanks heaps,

Sharon.

Hi fireheart, friends have one and love it. They had to sell a house to buy it though! (which you're planning on doing anyway aren't you?) They like the fact that the bed is on the same level as the cabin. They went back and got a second TV put in - no hassles.

Thanks NeilnRuth, Yes I am selling my home, and the time that it is taking has been a blessing in diguise as it has given me time to research some more. It seems as if they are a good unit and maybe a trip to Mildura might be around the corner. Good to hear good feedback from somebody who actually has one.

Hi Peter, I will have to look into that auto door mat, guess the only other down side is it does not come with its own driver and tourist guide that would double as a cook, hairdresser, housekeeper and well you get the drift. Seriously though, it looks as another option to look at. I had changed which Winnebago I would have chosen anyways.

All will be revealed in good time when that time is right.

If you can afford the time, see if the factory allows inspections (like Winnebago etc do).  Pop up and take the tour.   This of course, is not difinitive, but it will give you a first hand look at build quality, insulation and all the 'cutaway' views.   If you have further time, do the same with Winnebago (they used to do them and I believe they still do) and compare the build style, materials, framing etc.   I did this with yachts I was looking at and gave me a fair idea of whether price variations were justified (or rip offs), hull thicknesses, insulation, wiring, bunks and the rest.   There's obviously going to be some travelling and accomodation costs, but a hundred or so bucks invested in the trip (I love spending other people's money) will be worthwhile when laying out many thousands.   For what it's worth.

Thanks keith, you are right a small trip to Mildura is a very small price to pay with such a layout of $$$. Thankyou for the little tips to look at also. A trip up to Mildura is certainly on the cards in the very near future.

When we were looking several years back we dropped in unannounced at the factory.

They were more than happy to show us around and from what We saw the workmanship was excellent, finish and attention to detail second to none.

We ended up with a paradise but in hindsight should have gone with the Wirraway.

cheers

Mike

Are you talking about Avida Motorhomes and Caravans who used to trade as Winnebago or Winnebago Australia and New Zealand? Are you aware of the implications of the Yankee company running roughshod over the Australian company who had registered the name years ago.

Have any of you looked at the original date this was posted - 2012 - and WHIJOHN's post was 2015. By the way I believe Fireheart got her Wirraway and is very happy with it. The only prob, really was that water could not be put into the fresh water tank, unless you connected to a mains tap, but she had a pump put it in for this purpose. It is a lovely van - say g'day if you see her anywhere - she is called Miss Daisy, with Seedling on the back.

Why do you say that Mike if I may be so bold...???

I would have thought they were both pretty much on par...

The Wirraway prolly a bit more "hand built and polished" IMHO but ya pay for that... aww

I must say... they sure hold their price for ages...!!!

vik... love the AWD idea now...!!!

Hi Vik

Just think that the Wirraway was more refined and better built.
The company overall seemed more responsive.

Mildura a little closer than the gold coast to us for service and issues.

a big plus is that they are still in business..

cheers

Mike

Hi Peter

We appointed engineers to inspect the motorhome before taking delivery due to concerns to the way that wirraway had built it. They deemed the vehicle as structurley unsound and unfit for purpose , the body was not mounted to chassis according to Australian standards , it was over weight on front axel, if you go to ( www.wirrawayripoffgmail.com ) for court findings . when they join there wall panels its by glueing aluminium to foam. The roof Panel is only a 40mil wall panel which they then drill a 20 mil hole full length of the panel and in from the sides for wiring and in from the sides for same , roof panel was destroyied before it went on roof. We won court case but they changed the wirraway name to another company in his mates name so we receved nothing.

Fireheart has not been a member on here since 2013.
Maybe a good idea to start a new thread on this subject.
