Kennedy Development Road

Hi All,

My first post to this very informative forum. We are considering coming south on the above road via Ravenshoe, The Oasis Roadhouse and down to Charters Towers in the next couple of months. Has anybody travelled this road in recent times. Have heard through 2nd & 3rd hand sources that there are very steep sections and it is heavily populated with roadtrains and other large vehicles. We have travelled extensively but not this particular stretch.confuse

We have a 2006 Terracan CRDi towing an 18' Supreme.

Thanks in anticipation.biggrin

Watch for the large B triples from the mines, as they cannot get of the bitchumen , and some places are a bit narrow in places. Fletcher creek is nice, if you can find a spot.If you can spare the time, go to the lava tubes. They are eye opening.Bill

Not sure where you are before Ravenshoe but from there to the Towers you'll have no difficulty with your apparent experience except as already mentioned you'll need to make way for the occasional long load of mine's transport.
Recommend Dalrymple Van park at the Towers.
A good base for the Undara Tubes is Bed Rock Van Park at Mt Surprise, you should book ahead in both cases, we've come across lots of folk heading north, via your planned route, during the last week or two as we went from Brisbane to Longreach!!

Safe travels..Fried Rice

Thanks to all for your advice. We'll make sure we have our eyes and ears open, the UHF on and tuned for the trucks.

Cheers and safe travels

Hurls biggrin

We're in a Winnebago Longreach flat towing a grand vitara with a small dog. We are very new to it all with only 8 wks in to our big lap, and we're looking at this route coming down from Cooktown to get to Charters Towers without having to go back down the highway. Have also heard its steep in places and not all blacktop. Really appreciate some advice given our rig is about 15m in length in total and while it can haul up big hills a frustrated truckie behind us is already proving stressful. Thanks.
