We are planning a trip next year, I am currently researching and enjoying it very much. I was wondering if any one has travelled the Gibb River Road, WA, with a Daisy dog? If so was it easy to find dog freindly places to stay ect... In general, not just on the Gibb River Road, was it easy to go and see places with your dog or is every where you wanted top go in a National Park? I was just wondering how we were going to get on with avoiding National Parks!
i wouldnt take a dog travelling any where, especially the gibb river road. to many national parks along it. if you do it properly. we done 3000ks along it when we done it. also there is some really good national parks that you should see but wont be able, but i am not a believer in travelling long term with a dog, you may get other comments from dog lover travellers. i have had some bad experiences with dog owners that work while travelling and leave their dogs home to bark all day. they dont know and dont except it when told.
our dog goes where we go national parks can wait till later.gold dandelion i believe you are not a dog lover which is your choice but am surprised you are actually in this section as it is for travelling with pets but hey its a free country .
There is not much National Park along the Gibb River Road, though there is some more off to the sides, such as around the Mitchell Falls. There are very few places along the Gibb where free camping is allowed, these days, so you have little option but to camp in commercial campgrounds. Some of these allow pets - some don't. If you google Gibb River Road, you will find an "official" website that gives some current info. I would worry about baits, though. You will not be able to visit some of the best parts of the Kimberley if you have dog with you - places like Windjana Gorge, Mitchell Falls, Bell Gorge. There seem to be boarding kennels in Derby and Broome. Would it be feasible to board dog, then do a circuit along the Gibb, with offshoots, then into Bungles, then back along the bitumen to pick up dog?
