As the son of a son of a sailor I went out on the sea for adventure Expanding the view of the captain and crew Like a man just released from indenture
As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man I have chalked up many a mile Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks And I learned much from both of their styles
Chorus: Son of a son, son of a son Son of a son of a sailor Son of a gun, load the last ton One step ahead of the jailer
N&R...I would love to go to Margaritaville and find him...
He could do a gig especially for me and sing some of his songs that non fans have never heard of..."A Pirate Looks At Forty", "My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink and I Don't Love Jesus"...and of course, the ultimate love song..."Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw".
Re: George Jones. I know that he has been making music "forever"...but my favourite song of his is a more recent one..."He Stopped Loving Her Today".
I know him Pam and love the music. I know how you feel though. When I started work in SYdney I went to the Silver Spade Room to see Roy Orbison and then shortly after that Ginger Rogers came out. I went to see her too. It was Fantastic. I was so excited and went into work the next day and told everybody and they said "Who is Ginger Rogers"? I was devastated, I grew up on old music and old movies especially Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and the synchronised swimming etc to that beautiful music. i know Ginger is a little further back than Jimmy Buffet but they are all fantastic in my view. I have a huge music collection, wide and varied. I don't know how folk manage without music. I can't travel without it thats for sure. I travelled many miles with Roy, Jimmy, Neil, Patsy and the list goes on.
Hey, Roy, Jimmy, Neil and Patsy travel with me too.
So does Jimmy Buffett and Adam Brand, Troy Cassar-Daley, Slim Dusty, Joy McKean, Olivia Newton-John, John Williamson, Chad Morgan, Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan and Kasey Chambers.
I can play the ipod through the car stereo system, and have it loaded with oldies and goodies for the road.
I happily admit to travelling with every singer mentioned here...and many others too...from way back in time until the present day...and all of them singing just for me.
Rosie, I think the ipod is a great invention... thousands of songs on one little device that I can hold in the palm of my hand. GREAT!!!
Tess, I love all of those old movies too... Since having an accident before Easter I've been fairly house bound and they helped to keep me from going stir crazy.

dazren...don't apologise...I'm often in a silly mood... There are some who think it's my natural state...and they could be right. _______________________________________________________________

Hey Bill...being a fisherman, surely you wouldn't part with "Fins"...
My father-in-law went to school with David Gordon Kirkpatrick (Slim Dusty) up at Nulla Creek mid north coast NSW. So all my mrs' family love listening to his music in the car... That's why I only carry Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix music when I drive.
Pajeros have a 6 stcker cd player............ I load mine up with mp3 discs, about 10 hrs each disc and its all country. SWMBO gets some Daniel O'Donnel and Mary duff tho' I am pleased to say some of my close friends are Dianne Lindsay ( Daughter of Reg) and her Husband Pete who I was in the RAAF with. Trevor Day and Slim Newton so I get a fair amount of live music as well. For those who have never heard of Dianne Lindsay I just finished a music video for her. have a look if you like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uonPZsAmERs&feature=share

Jimmy Buffett sings a song called "Fins"...but I can't recall one about scales and smelling like fish...
You lot made me realize how crowded our little van was when we were on the road. I just checked my computer, we had just over 1,000 artists sharing our travels, thats 16,000 songs stored there. I tend to collect music, especially 60's & 70's stuff but I do have older & newer music also & even some cultural diverse stuff mixed in for when the mood takes me.
I do love my music
Cheers
Jon
