Road Conditions - Goldfileds Area WA

Has anyone recently travelled in the WA Goldfields area, to the NW of Kalgoorlie.

I will be travleling from Melbourne to the Cue/Mt Magnet area in August (via. the Great Central Road) and am looking to travel from Leonora to Mt Magnet by way of one of the following roads:
Leonora - Mt Ida - Sandstone Road; or
Leonora - Menzies - Sandstone Road (by way of Lake Ballard); or
Leonora - Menzies - Evanston - Youanmi Downs Road

Any advice on what I might find on these roads would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi witsenz - hope you are not really at your 'wit's end' - welcome to the forum. I'm sure there will be someone out there who can help. Sorry, it's not us.

Thanks NeilnRuth - we also started very small - 12' Hilite in 1975 - did 10 month trip 'around the block' towing with a Toyota Corona MkII - a lot of dirt rpads in those days, particulalry Nullabour and north of Port Hedland.

We started small and haven't got much bigger. We have all we need, can't afford big $ for fuel, so happy to pull an older van. Won't be able to do off road like you tho. Have a great time.

Not sure about Youanmi Downs Road, but I would expect it to be fine.
The others are all good, certainly better than the NT end of the GCR.

Cheers,
Peter

I travelled these roads in the last 2 weeks, and all were sealed and in great condition. We didn't go to Lake Ballard.
From Norseman north through Kal to Leinster to Mt. Magnet are an easy drive through some great country. A few wildflowers may be starting, the camels are healthy, as are the goats, the emus and the wedge tailed eagles.
I had plenty of time to check it out travelling at 90 KPH.
It's a main route for oversize loads from the east to the Pilbara. Take care.

Have done Perth to Mt Magnet, then Sandstone, leinster, Kal, down to Esperance. Great roads. Have to be with the huge loads that move on them. I think in WA there are rest areas every 10km which is great. The actual Great Northern HW leaves a bit to be desired until you get out of Perth a way though. Recommend Kirkalocka south of Mt Magnet - homestay, and they cook meals if you ask. I didnt have a van then but I'm sure they have parking. Cue Park is cheap and great exploring around there - Walga Rock, abandoned mine (Big Bell?)

Road into Tom Price is also great - Queensland has the scary stuffashamed

Do click on the photo to read the sign - finally found one in the right place!
