I'm sponsored by Centrelink too, but unfortunately, mine's a Disability Support Pension.

I only say unfortunately because I'd rather not have the health issues, not because I want to go back to work. wink I wouldn't have time! biggrin

You buy those stickers in the cheap shops where they have racks of different stickers. Saw them in Sugarland Bundy a couple of years ago.
Saw one on the back of a van today in Childers. One of the Grey Nomads at Greens Lake had one also.

My thoughts exactly Jack. I certainly don't want to stir the pot!

At one stage a few years ago they were being very tough, I was told to get a job, which resulted in a nervous breakdown and my doctor stepping in. cry

what do you mean, you have to BUY them, if you are advertising for centrelink I think they should supply them free of charge. biggrin

For me Beth, the boot is on the other foot.
I'm on disability and have returned to work, part time, self-employed. It was very hard to explain my income, how it occurs and what I have to do for it.
It was hard to explain I don't work every day, even every week, nor how the hours are calculated. I was tempted to just do the job and tell them nothing. Unfortunately when I registered for the ABN, and I'll have to do something about tax, it will come back to bite me on the bnm, so I'm trying to do the right thing.
While we can't help it, it's not a great lifetime achievement to be sponsored by Centrelink. It's an existence, not a living. There is no "fun-factor" in the pension.

Very true Chris. I was still working part-time when I went onto the DSP, and it was always such a drama to tell them what I was doing etc. After I had to give up work totally, it was a lot easier in some ways. I worked in retail and just couldn't do the standing anymore and the company I worked for wouldn't/couldn't find a physically easier position for me.

that way you can get what??ever you like on it . I have had

several done over the years , I paint my own 't-shirt'

Told to get a job, how inconsiderate of Centrelink. I think I'd have a nervous breakdown if they said that to me !!! biggrin

Rip and Rosie - sorry, but you have no idea of peoples circumstances - to you it may be sad - there are people on disability pensions who are too ill to work, there are aged pensioners, who have probably worked for many, many years, to be rewarded by the Age Pension - there are genuine people out of work, all are entitled to help from Centrelink.

And where is your sense of humour??

The Global Financial crisis put lots of self funded retirees onto the pension. We lost over 40% of our super funds saved over 46 years.....financial advisor didn't lose a penny and I'll bet he's still receiving trailing commissions. But, like Billeeee says, enjoyment in life is a state of mind.
I don't begrudge dolies getting money from Centrelink either. We live in a community not an economy.

I was so excited when I reached 65 and received my age pension. I deserved it as far as I concerned. So there!!!!

Disagree completely, know many people who have lost their super and saving from the incompetence of governments and fund managers. We lost a super fortune in the 80's crash, so established our own investment fund which now looks after us very well. Many others didn't have the same opportunities as us and live on centrelink in their retirement, plus you have to take into account many baby boomers leaving the workforce, never had super until the last few years and if you work part time or casual, you have no super, or hope of saving for the future.

Putting everyone in the one basket, is not good social practice in anyway, as the majority of the work force now is casual or part time, these poor souls have no hope of establishing a retirement fund as all their money goes on ever increasing living expenses.

My sense of humour doesn't extend to people who are too ill or too old to work. Its not funny in my book. Nor does it extend to people who are genuinely doing it tough. I don't find it funny.

.....always a very touchy subject.....and guaranteed to bring out the "I died in three World Wars for you" types.....live and let live.....we'll all be in the same place soon enough, and you can't really buy your way out of it......Kerry Packer was proof of that.....when I had a body to go with, I used to go down to Maslins Nudist Beach S.A with my wife....and the thing that I found attractive...steady Billlleeeee not what you're thinking mate....was...when folk are wearing nothing there is nothing to differentiate between the rich from the poor....a great leveller...nothing for big noters to hang onto....relatively speaking....except the rich were often more obese........and no-one could really see the size of their rings.......Wedding and engagement rings that is.......just their friendship rings.... biggrin

God, I love holier than thou types. I presume you're a weekend caravan park warrior because I've not had the pleasure of encountering such intolerance among all the full time nomads met in our travels. Pity, I've always enjoyed telling such people numerous home truths. Perhaps something we can both look forward to.

Rip and Rosie I hope you are not serious in your criticism of anyone who has a needs to accept a helping hand in the later years of their live or when in trouble.
I have worked hard all my life and have been ripped off by two females and the financial crash, we had to have and when I left work due to health issues I had to sell my home because i could not afford to keep it.
The little I had left I had to use to live until I got involved in voluntary work and even that was cut off 3 months before reaching retirement age by an obnoxious centrelink employer because I had not done voluntary work the previous week even though I had spent most of the previous 3 months working full time for Blazeaid.
I hope you never get into a situation where you need to go to centrelink as I see that you would not lower yourself to accept help whatever the situation so you might find it hard to survive.
Remember that anyone's situation can change overnight so perhaps best to not gauge everyone by you high ideas.
I have a little money in the bank and receive the age pension and I believe I have earnt the right. I feel that in the future there may be no government assistance as in many other countries and when you fall on bad times you beg in the street or lie down and die.
I saw people injured during their employment and they were physically pulled from their position and ushered out the door to walk 4 kilometers to a bus and then tend to themselves and no guarantee of employment when and if recovered. perhaps that's the style of system you would like this country to have.
I would expect also that if you had a problem on the road you would not accept assistance from others as I assume you are confident in all areas and you would be able to handle all situations on your own as you are a person who has not time for anyone in distress so I assume you also would not ask for any yourself.
