I finally found another number to ring and managed to speak to a Phillpipine lady whose accent wasn't too bad. I gave up trying to find an Australian accent!
So at least I eventually found why it dropped so much. It's all Travel Bugs fault! We talked for 1 hour 45 minutes! It's okay Pam, I accept all responsibility.
I think it'll have to be Skype in future.

My turn for a whinge about my Telstra prepaid mobile.
I started off some time ago with $30, and it's been slowly accumulating until last month there was over $300 credit. when I recharged today, 'the voice' said I had $70 something.
So I rang them. I asked to speak to someone in Australia, as someone advised on here. He gave me a different number to ring. He put me through to another department. She said you can ask to speak to someone in Australia, but basically it's the luck of the draw if you get one. Finally I got to speak to someone in Australia...with an Indian accent. He said he was definitely in Melbourne. I told him I'm not racsit, I just have trouble understanding the accents. So he's put in a complaint for me, which will probably go in the bin.
Meanwhile I have to wait 3-5 working days for someone to ring me about my $$$ query. I have looked at my account online, but it still doesn't seem right to me.
Beth! It's just like Liberal and Labor No choices Telstra and Optus...I hate them all..Big call I know..But! Shirla and I have been having trouble with Telstra for yearsMy hair is Grey because of them

I was just about to suggest maybe you lose some of it after a certain time. Like it runs out after 6 months for example. Glad you worked out the problem Beth, and enjoyed you chat with Pam.
Yes, I was glad I had a good credit when I noticed a chat to my friend cost $64. So you may as well use it then start accumulating it again. Glad you solved the problem.
I think it was a record for me. And actually, we only got off the phone because I started coughing and couldn't stop. Better to drive to Ippy and meet for a cuppa!

I was so cranky at the time, I just had to vent to my GN friends.
Because I have a $550 a month allowance I often have calls that come to up to $100 when ring family members. I always go online and check to see how close I am, so I don't go over my allowance.
Just a quick heads up for Telstra customers, when you get the automated voice hit the corresponding number that asks if you are thinking of canceling your service. You normally get transferred to an Australian in the Adelaide office. You then layout the facts and say you might cancel your service and see what you get. My bigpond cost me $9.95 per month for twelve months then went up to $19.95. not bad concidering I was on a $39 plan origanallyand the young man was really nice about it.
The $500 Telstra deals (and Woolies has one like it, as well) are a con. Sure, you get $500 worth of calls, but they charge you about $1.20 a minute for calls plus flagfall.
Savvytel charges 10 cents a minute and NO flagfall. Amaysim charges 15 cents a minute and NO flagfall on prepaid. Or you can pay $39.99 a month for unlimited standard talk and text, unlimited access to social networks and 4gb of data. They both use Optus, but if you're in a build-up area, that should not pose a big problem.
Cheers, Tony

I am currently with Optus $39.99 for my mobile plus $39.99 for my 5 gig internet stick. Have just bought an Amaysim sim card. I will get free calls and text and only 1 gig less data for half the price. I will still be with Optus so seems like a no brainer to me. The only down side is I won't be able to video Skype.
It seems to me the world of communications is getting more and more complicated. There was a day when we went away and if WE wanted to contact family we found a pay phone and rang them - once a week - and they knew if there was ever a big drama that they needed to contact us they could get the police to do it. Now we all seem to need to be 'available' every minute of the day everywhere we go. Oh dear. Oh for the good old days! Haha.
