Last night we stayed at a free camp, Qld 622 Cecil Plains , a great camp site.
There was one other motor home along side us so as you do we invited them to share happy hour with us to which the accepted. They hadn't even set up their chairs when a small car drove in & parked right in front of where we were sitting, first thought were what did I do?.
Out steps a older gentlemen & introduced himself as Ned Winter, & former stockman, drover, shearer, bush poet & song writer, & the conversion soon turned to where to & where from ?
Ned soon started to share stories of his past with some turned into poems & songs which he had on a cd, played a few tracks of his own works on his car sound system, they were very well put together.
The next chapter of his life he purchased a small property just down the road at Millmerrin, he then turned his hand the bush catering, all done with his collection of sixty camp ovens. Again he had photoes of big cookouts where he had very long fire beds with all the camp ovens going, has also had 80+ motor homes on his property for one of these occasions.
As it turned out the couple in the motor home were there to meet with another 15 M/H the next day for a few days travelling, so Ned offered to return the next afternoon to entertain the travellers.
A gentleman of the bush, now semi retired & a great bloke to spend some time with. This arvo was a real country bonus , Thanks Ned.

Were the other couple called Janine and Ken? They are great friends of ours and were going to Cecil Plains. Great Southern Van (Sahara) and "whatdayisit "on back of van
Yes Ned is a teriffic guy a true Aussie bushman very tallented indeed we met with Ted at Cecil Plains he even brought us some Damper the next day and gave us one of his CD's a true gentleman. Helena.
Thats funny, I recently passed thru Cecil Plains myself & Ned also dropped by. Actually, I think he almost drops past every other day to chat with travellers.
Interesting character, although I must admit I am often suspicious of people in general especially ones that approach you for one reason or another and start rambling on.
I came through Cecil Plains on my way up, would have loved to stop over as had heard the free camp was a good one. Maybe next time when I head back to Vic for my summer holidays.
