The paddle boat used in that show is still used now, it does little trips up and down the river at Echuca, they usually mention that it was used in a movie.

One of my favourite Aussie movies would be "The Castle" and I often use a couple of lines from the movie, "That's going straight to the pool room" and "Tell 'em their dream'n". I just love one liners and there were a few in that movie. Kenny was good too. Wolf Creek, another one.

"Crackers" is a cracker of an Aussie movie! Very funny. Especially the dog and the barbeque scene

Speaking of paul Hogan, Strange Bed Fellows. Also with Michael Keaton.

 That has to be my all time favourite.    Another two I have just watched are Oranges and Sunshine (based on a true story)  And Snowtown  (great movie but a tad gruesome.  

Remember "We of the Never Never?" We watched the video before we went to Mataranka, near Elsie Station ... lends an extra touch.

But would you want to watch Australia..............my answer is a resounding NO.........one of the worst movies ever made here and cost more than any other........IMHO.

 Oranges and sunshine is about english children during the war sent to australia by the english government.  A lot of them had parents etc and family, and were told there parents had died etc, or the parents were told the kids were adopted or dead etc, true story about an english social worker that brought about reconciliation of the children and their families.

I absolutely love all the Dad and Dave movies made in the 30's and 40's - based on the Steel Rudd books. Australia during that period was way ahead of the US in the movie industry and led the world. You can pick up some of these old movies really cheaply especially if you buy a collection.

Then there were all those wonderful films with Jack Thompson and co - Sunday Too Far Away- and others which will never be dated because they were made so well. There's that strange movie filmed in Sofala - the cars that ate Paris.....didn't understand it but interesting to watch.

Other favourites are Wake in Fright, Walkabout (incredibly powerful for its time); Adventures of Barry MacKenzie; Caddie (absolutely loved that one); Mad Dog Morgan; Storm Boy; The Getting of Wisdom; The Picture Show man; My Brilliant Career, Dimboola; The Odd Angry Shot; The Fringe Dwellers; Crocodile Dundee;Evil Angels; The piano; Muriels Wedding........ must stop there are too many.

There are so many examples of excellent Australian films over the decades. It's a pity successive Govts of all leanings do not give consistent funding and support to our very impressive film industry as there are so many talented people out there is all aspects of the industry - actors, directors, producers, writers, etc etc.

Oh, and how about "A fortunate life".. series on the ABC about a boy who grew up in WA and went to Gallipoli... very moving.

Ah yes and lets not forget Gallipoli another brilliant film
