Was in discussion the other day about this, pparticularly whats going to happen the RRP after July 2012......for those of you than run cars via this fuel as I do the timetable is getting close & I`m none the wiser.
Have contacted the LPGA and no response thus far and would have thought the Taxi Council would be yelling from the rooftops by now....any thoughts ??
Gidday whiteman, Who knows what this Gov't will do ?? whatever they implement they won't do it properly, ??? my last understanding was that LPG excise tax would raise over time to a maximum of 12.5% ???
However they way i look at it is just wait and see ! and reap the savings whilst one can, The only positive i can see is that we have Immense Quantities of Lpg Availiable here in Oz. while we will be Importing All of our Petrol and Diesel in the very near future, and with the supply and demand on the world market, especially from the developing countries like China, India, and Russia. The supply will be scarce, and this will blow up the price on petrol and diesel considerably ! So LPG may also rise ?? but the difference in the comparison will remain about the same.
The Goverment wants us to go ''Green'' and reduce Carbon pollution ??? so why in the name of commonsense would they turn people away from Lpg. So lets just wait and see, and decide what to do when the choice is put before us ???
Today i will be driving 300klm in my Colarado and it will cost me $27.oo on todays Lpg price, if i had desiel [ @ 10 ltr p/100 ] at todays price it would cost me $44.30. So I;m happy with that.

I run my car on LPG and no matter what happens it will be cheaper than petrol or diesel so I am happy.

Guys...just a further thought after reading your responses....is LPG a by-product of oil prior to becoming petrol or are you thinking it comes from the natural gas we send to China and elsewhere in boat loads.
Gidday again whiteman, following is a chart on what oil supplies are still available and also the Lpg reserves that are also still available, as you can see we have a lot more Lpg reserves left in australia than oil, as for China we export large quantities of both LPG and Natural Gas over there, and we also sell heaps to Japan, But don't panic, there is plenty left for us .
just wondering , i saw a campervan (hi top) the other day with duel fuel how many k's whould I get as an idea with lpg , and do they have a fuel gauge that tells you when your low and then do you switch over to petrol? can you switch over while moving or do you have to pull over..?
1.My Landcruiser has 4 tanks, 3 for LPG which hold a total of 190 litres and 1 for 90 litres of petrol.
2.Range on LPG depends if your are towing the caravan, however when towing and in normal driving conditions about 550/600 klms when not towing 950/1000 klms.
3.The standard fuel gauge on my vehicle covers both and includes the low fuel warning light, so you always know how much is there and when to refuel.
4.My unit is old technology and thus means you simply press a button to change from one fuel source to the other, I think the newer models are all automatic.
Guru, there is a Commonwealth Government subsidy presently in force to offset the purchase & installation price, but is slowly being reduced, so if you are serious have a talk with your local LPG supplier for further info.

I've a Commodore on duel fuel. Initially unleaded only but with the petrol tank on the drivers side I sometimes found it difficult to manouvre into a service station with the caravan on back, and when I did I was often a long way from the bowser.
Mr Rudd was handing out dollars to convert to LPG so I thought it a good idea, giving me twice the distance before needing to fill up again, and by that time I was generally where I was going anyway, so I could unhitch and fill up without the burden of a van on back.
My LPG tank is 95 litres but due to expansion can only get 75 litres in it. I've never really let it run that low to need it to be filled up completely. When towing, with both tanks I can get at least 700 klms before needing to fill again. Cant give you a definite answer but I think it goes around 400 on unleaded and maybe 300 on gas, but as I said the gas tank has never been emptied.
Driving on LPG is similar to unleaded except if there is a long hill to climb it is better to switch to petrol as the car tends to struggle a little towards the mid or top of the hill on LPG whereas it virtually breezes up on petrol.
There is a little gauge which has a series of little green lights in a row, and one red one, which is on the bottom of the dash where my right knee is, as the LPG is used the green lights go out one at a time and when there is only the red one remaining its time to gas up again. I can flick from LPG to unleaded and back again by way of a switch on this gauge whilst driving and it is just a smooth transition, the car just continues on its merry way.

G IDDAY ROSCO, I had 2 VS Commodores as work vehicles, first one had the valves go at 80000 k put changover gas heads on it then did another 300000 K on it trouble free, 2nd one had a broken valvle spring at 12000 k, would have been fixed under warranty, but i made a deal with them to just change both heads over to the Gas heads [stellite valves and seats ] I then proceeded to drive that vehicle until it had clocked up 420000, and it was still running nice tight, and perfect when i sold it
if you have the old venturi system, [ which i had in the VS's ] you can run the gas right out, and when the warning beep goes off just press the button for petrol and away you will go, If you run the gas right out you should get about 440 - 450 klm out of your tank of lpg and the 90 litre tank should take about 82 - 83 litres when empty. I found with the VS Commodores it used about 20% more Gas than Petrol, and was about 15% down on power. With the new Injected Systems, you do not lose any power at all, in fact i would say my Colarado has more power on Lpg Although My system was Dealer fitted by HSV holden and they tune it to have Lpg is the main fuel, Hence i return around 13 ltrs p/100 on petrol, and get 15 Ltrs p/100 on Lpg. [ I use 23 to 26 ltrs per 100 towing my 2400 Kg loaded van ] and have no power loss and i am very happy with that,
PS, i loved those Duel/ Fuel Commodores, very comfortable, reliable, and easy to drive. My last 2 work vehicles have been Ford E-Gas falcon utes, give me back the commodores any day
I will be getting a new car soon and intend to remove the petrol and make it sole LPG. There is a new form of doing called LPG Injection. you do not lose any power. NRMA are doing it to their vans. LPG is going to have its tax increased 2.5% pa for next 5 years. If you get a new car factory fitted you get a $3K rebate.

That's right, but it must be liquid gas injection, they fit new injectors into the fuel rail and the gas is injected as a liquid.
No loss of power and mileage as good if not better than petrol
