I have recently been notified via a Pajero forum that a rust problem exists for which a Mitsubishi warranty hotfix is available.
The models concerned are NS & NT Pajero's. To date the most common area's of rust found are the left & right rear passenger doors, and the lower metal aperture welds on the rear opening cargo area.
When carrying out your inspection, may I suggest a steady as it goes approach when lifting the rubber seal at the top of the doors as the seal can be a bit fiddly to get back in place properly. Just gently/slowly lift the rubber from the lowest edge to the top of window area".
In my case the rust could be seen immediately on top of metal where the rubber seal sits and along the horizontal seam of upper door fold. I wouldnt suggest trying to clean it if you want to have the work done under warranty. The rear cargo seal is much easier to inspect but once again take your time. Leave it to be inspected by your dealer to give a clearer idea of the problem. I approached local smash repairers before discussion with dealer as I wanted to have a clear understanding of the problem, ( and it is a well known problem with repairers) how best it is repaired and how to protect against reoccurence/warranty issue's under MMAL 5 year rust warranty.
If you hear "we havent heard of this problem before" then you can politely mention MMAL hotfix NT 42-001.
Here's hoping you dont find a problem, but dont be too surprised if you do.
Cheers,
ozi2
