That's not too bad, high season rate is $34. Top Tourist discount will reduce this by 10% if a member. Avoid sites furthest from the entrance as occasionally the "locals" in a nearby housing estate can be a little noisy at weekends. Apart from the budget caravan park operated by the council, Palm Cove is generally up-market and expensive and well out of town. Caravilla is very conveniently located with a 10 minute ride into town on a regular bus service. If you don't like the really big shopping malls there are smaller centres with better parking at DFO (Direct Factory Outlets) a short distance along Mulgrave Road and Raintrees in Pease Street. Wayne or Mavis at reception will give you details.

Good news for the First City Caravailla park. The state housing has sold those properties across the creek because of the problems the locals caused.
I don't know where the trouble went to but at least they don't live there anymore.
It should be nice a quiet now, once would hope.
I really did enjoy living there for 2+ years.

Kurrimine Beach looks really nice - or was in 2009 when we had a look round there. It is south of Cairns, near Tully, just a bit north of Mission Beach.
There is a council owned caravan park at Wonga Beach, just south of the Daintree River, that might be within budget. We stayed there for a while, years ago. It was ok then, and I think has had improvements done since then. It is right beside the beach - lovely spot. It is not the Pinnacle CP, which is more upmarket. Is a good base for day trips to explore the Daintree area.

In 2009, we stayed a month at a little caravan park at Forrest Beach, on the coast, out of Ingham. It too was right by the sea - a lovely long beach to walk along. It was a bit run down, but their weekly rate was only $150, which we thought was pretty good at the height of the tourist season.

With those "locals" gone Caravilla should be fine. As it's one block back from the main road it's away from the traffic noise. The Balaklava Pub across the (main) road does a good bistro.

There's a council owned caravan park at Kurrimine as well as both a Big4 and a Top Tourist.  The council park is located right on the beach beside the boat ramp and has some sites that are ok but some others are really crappy.  Not being peak season you should have a choice.  There's not much at Kurrimine if you don't fish and nearest shopping is in Innisfail.

I think Mission Beach is one of the nicest places in FNQ. The Top Tourist there is not cheap but would be one of the best parks I've stayed in and it's almost in the centre of the village. There's also a council park there across the road from the TT park and right on the beach. MB has more in the way of shopping and services including a Woolworths supermarket and servo.

Jim

PS: Both Kurrimine and MB are located on the coast between Innisfail and Tully, less than two hour's drive south of Cairns.

One suggestion re Caravilla, avoid being under a tree as you can get bird and bat droppings (applies anywhere in Cairns)

My preferred park at Airlie Beach is the Top Tourist at Jubilee Pocket, a couple of Kms east of the CBD. Pub/bistro across the road, regular bus into town. Site sizes are ok but access lanes are narrow so check the site you're allocated to see if any problems backing onto site. Sites could get a bit sloppy in extended periods of heavy rain.

There's a Big4 about half a km further east (don't confuse this with the Big4 at Cannonvale on the way into A.B.). many sites here are very awkward to get into due to sloping ground. They're the only ones I stayed in at A.B. The Cannonvale Big4 I think is a typical "kiddie friendly" Big4, don't know much about the others.

There's one between Cannonvale and A.B., I think it may called the Seabreeze or something similar, that was closed for some time but has reopened and when I drove past last September they had banners out the front advertising that.

Budgetwise, Airlie Beach is not a "bargain basement" destination, don't expect any cheapies.
