Airbag suspension?

We are looking to get airbag suspension in the bus.

My question is, whether or not airbag suspension is suitable for a motorhome as we have heard that excessive load on airbag suspension while just sitting can be harmful to the airbags.  We are unsure if a normal motorhome would be regarded as excessive weight.

Hi RosieW,

I am no expert and can only go by my expereiences.

My RV is an A class based on a MAN Bus/Truck chassis.

It weighs in at 8.3 tonnnes and has airbag suspension, built in 2001 and I bought it in 2010.

It has been serviced regularly and according to the previous owner who also built it it, has had no work done apart from the normal services done on the suspension.

Ten years and no problems in it's 98 Thousand Kilometres.

I am sure you will be told lots of tales some good some bad,but I have had no problems.

Cheers

most trucks use air bag suspension without any problems except if thier adjustable an you run them without any pressure in them then the bags pinch other wise they last for years

I know this is an old post but I thought people might be interested in the fact that we have just put rear airbags on our motorhome. I found that the main problem I had was with this machine ( RV not my wife ) bottoming out in lots of places. Had local suspension man put bellows type bags on rear leaf springs and what a difference. Rides better, more stable on corners but I can raise it from inside to get over driveways etc. Added bonus I can use it to level the motorhome on small uneven surfaces as I can adjust each one separately. Hope this helps if anybody is thinking of doing the same. Dave
