sqeaky caravan brakes

Hello Everyone, Merry Christmas. Our caravan has been sitting for a few months and when we start off the brakes are very noisey. I was told it may be surface rust. If so, are the brakes ok? Is this normal for all vans than sit for long periods and how often should brakes be looked at and who fixes caravan brakes. cheers everyone. Rocket n Strop

I Take the drums off before a trip and give them a wipe out with fine sand paper and the clean with metho

if you are at a c/p for a couple of days take the drums off and rub them and the brakes with the fine sand paper

Just check it is not dust, sometimes they get dust on them and giving them a good hose with water will prove if that is the case.

This applies to your towing vehicle too, especially if it has been used in dusty areas etc.

Just take it for a run around the block and apply brakes several times then hose off after the brakes cool down. Then recheck if problem is still presant remove wheels and clean with fine sand paper and wash out with mild soapy water. Refit drums and adjust shoe drag.
Hope this helps Have a nice XMAS.
Regards

Ditto what old briny recommends, that is what I do remove the drums and give them a good wash with metho and a rub of both the drums and shoes with fine emery
