If your decision was prompted by what transpired in that "Christmas" thread, please understand that my response was not a personal attack against you, nor was it an opinion on the subject. Instead I challenged the accuracy of your message, as we all should have done. I never accept any inflammatory statement as the truth without verifying the source, especially when it purports to be "news", and especially when it's in the Murdoch media. That's why I asked for a reference so that I could see the real story for myself. As I expected, the actual story turned out to be far less inflammatory than your message suggested. That's not to say that I support secular holiday carols, assuming that makes any sense at all. And FWIW, I'm an atheist who thinks that the world would be far better off without any religion of any sort.

I wanted to clarify my position in that thread, but the moderator did not give me the opportunity to do so. Instead I had intended to contact you privately, but didn't get around to doing so, either.

Yes they have been banned for some time Chichi, Have no idea why. Its been weeks.

That has always worried me too Tim. When I see the offers going either way I worry. I could be offered a front lawn to park on by someone here only to find when I get there they are an axe murderer, so to speak.
I do know the genuine ones who I have contact with privately but now anyone could be suspect.

People do whatever they want to with the anonimity given by the system of most forums. I've been here for quite a few years, deleted myself once when there was a lot of fuss and a troll or two. (I used to be "Rosey") But I missed all you nice folk so rejoined. Most people are genuine, but you always get an odd person with an agenda, so its a warning to us all to be careful about your personal details in such a public domain. That doesnt mean to tell outright lies though!

I do tend to think that those who write in riddles and innuendo are not what they pretend to be.

On the subject of personal details, I've had two emails over a time, from members who I haven't given my email address to. I thought our email address' were private?

Not sure why Ibbo has resigned, I think he is genuine whatever his reasons.

In regards to Aussue Baby Boomers, there are a some members of GN that also belong to that forum, started by Basil Faulty who was on this forum at one time, some of his posts are still here on GN.

 Tim, I think you will find that the majority of the members are ok, the one's I've met have been fantastic.  Like anywhere, you just need to be a little cautious, that is why I encourage people to limit the information on their profile or amend it, so that surnames and exact locations are not shown, but putting the state your in without a surname should be fine. 

Some don't put a state which makes it hard for people to respond when they ask where a good repairer is etc, I usually don't respond to those requests unless they can be a bit more specific about which state or part of the state (eg; near Brisbane, north Qld etc. )

 

 

I believe that forums will always attract some people who want to play childish games but the majority of members are very genuine people who want to share with each other the joy of travelling this awesome country we live in I for one am genuine and I will consider others genuine untill they prove otherwise.

I looked at my settings Marj, and on 'email visible to other members'... I'd set it on 'no, accept email anonymously', so now I've set it on 'no and don't accept email'.

I just felt a bit funny about strangers knowing my email address.

Well I thnk most people are genuine........but never can tell I suppose. I've met a few people on these "forums" and they have been nice people. It knocks you a bit when you find out otherwise.
