We had a look at Boulder Creek a few months ago... thought it was lovely. Did you go up the unmade road from Calen? There is a much better road all bitumen except for the last 100 metres or so. You access it by turning left just north of Mt Ossa.

Yes I went in from Calen and out via the Mt Charlton - Mt Ossa Road so in fact did the loop.
