1988 Winsor "Windcheater", 12vt problems

We have purchased a 1988 van 12 months ago, previous owner now deceased, so we can not refer to his knowledge.  Looking for advise on how to set up the fridge and lighting with the 12vt capacity installed when purchased new.

We have tried to run the 3 way fridge, with no result on any of the three power supplies available.  Also the internal lights work on 240vt but not 12vt. Wirering appears fine.

Does anybody have suggestions to the problem?

Has it got an inhouse battery or does it rely on a power feed from the tow vehicle, has your tow vehicle got a 12v feed wire in the trailer plug. By the way if thats how the power is supplied to the van there most likely isnt enough capicity in the wire to run the fridge on 12 volt (the 3 way fridges draw about a constant 10 amps). One of the biggest problems with 12 volt wiring systems is the earth connections, check and clean all known earth connections including the one that comes from the vehicle. More earth leads is better and earth leads are better to return to the battery and not rely on the chassis rails etc to make the connections
Hope this is of some help
cheers

Hi - it's probably worth getting the van fully checked out by an auto electrician then you can identify all the problems and fix them rahter than fixing one problem and being caught with another when on the road. Could be that the fridge is stuffed as well.

I know this is a bit late and you may have solved the problem. We have a Windsor (different model) and they have 1. no internal battery, 2. a transformer to supply 12v. 3. a changeover switch for 240v/12v on the wall beside the door..

Make sure your 7 pin plug on the towbar has a 12v feed. An autoelectrician can fix this for you, but get him to run it through a relay so it cuts out while the car engine is not running, otherwise you'll flatten your battery with the fridge when you stop for lunch! The 12v  fridge needs the changeover switch to be in the 12v position as well as the 12v setting on the fridge itself , DAMHIK!

The transformer has screw terminals for the 12v into the van and these are prone to coming loose. Mine is in the bottom of the pantry cupboard and hard to get at, check the terminals.

Hope this will help you.
