Western Flora Caravan Park

One of our favourites since our first visit in 2009. Allan and Lorraine Tinker own some 160 acres of sand plain, 22 km north of Eneabba; a small part of that is set aside for campers, caravans (even big enough for 5th wheelers!) and chalets.

The sand plain is famous for its huge range of flowering plants, mainly between July and January, and Allan's knowledge of the species is immense. In the 20-odd years they've been there, Allan has discovered several new species; at least two have his name. The property even brough David Attenborough to visit.

Allan invites campers to join him (free of charge) on a wildflower walk each afternoon -- always a fascinating experience; after the walk, you can also sample Lorraine's fine cooking with a three-course meal (not free of charge! smile).

Allan also leads a four-hour tag-along tour three times a week during the wildflower season, covering some of the country around his property.

The park is semi-bushland -- no regimented rows, plenty of elbow room. You'll often see kangaroos wandering through, and the bird life is also prolific. Rates are very reasonable, especially for the peak season -- $26/night for a powered site, and $156/week (seventh night free). But be sure to book ahead, as it's very popular.

So, if you're looking for a wildflower experience, consider including Western Flora -- we think it's a magic place! You can read more on their web site:

I'll happily endorse "thumbs up" for a great wildflower experience at Western Flora. On the walks, he had us down on hands & knees examining the tiniest dewdrops & native bees in conostylus . A real eye-opener.

Great park to visit, the wilflower walks and later indoors presentation is free to anyone booked into the park, day visitors are also welcome to join the guided walk and presentation for a small fee.
