@happy wanderer - awesome to hear. Maybe you can train me! lol. Have had a heap of feedback from guests that they don't have a facebook page and want to set one up to more detailed questions about that they are not sure they are using facebook correctly, what does it mean when someone tags you in a photo, how do you remove a tag, securing your data and what that means, how to block someone, how to remove a comment (if required).
@Sheba, I understand your concerns, I too was worried about that and resisted using facebook, even to the extent where I was on, then cancelled, then on again and then cancelled again. Now, I use it for friends and family and it is great. Like anything you moderate what you say, but it is becoming the way in which we communicate with our grandchildren as this is where they are all hanging out.
Have fb page - use it a lot - use the "chat" section a lot - makes for instant talk to people, and free - have just tonight talked to an old friend, wished another friend happy birthday, spoke to daughter in law, other ex daughter in law, grandaughter, grandson, another friend, two other friends - - some of them at the same time - couldn't do that on the phone - also some posts - which are visible - the chat section is only visible to the person you are talking to - never had a problem, and have had it for about two years.

You just have to make sure you have your privacy settings right so only your contacts can read your info and not everyone else Sheba. There really is no security issue if you have that right. Only yesterday I was connected to a facebook page with people from my birthplace. The reminiscing went on for hours. nearly forgot to go to bed.
I have always steered away from facebook for privacy reasons but my children & relles keep telling me about all of the things that I am missing out on.
Like previous posters have mentioned, the privacy issue is said to be all about how you have established your settings.
I think that I will have a look at it & get my Daughter to check my settings.
Have not got and don't want a facxxxxk or twxxxer account, I use email to keep in touch with friends and relations, as you can see I cannot bring myself to even say the names
I have never had an account but I can still access these sites with certain software so that is how insecure they are.
Now wombat, they do have names. While travelling there is no way I would sit and write emails to all friends and family when I can go into facebook and write" In Dubbo "or where ever and its there for friends and family to see. I found a cousin on facebook today who I haven't seen or spoken to in probably 15 years. We will catch up next winter when they are in Bowen for their winter stayover.
I have a face book account i find it great as all my kids and family have them so it easy to stay in touch at home or on the road .Like Marj said if your privacy setteing are set to how you want them you will have no drama .. I have found it great to catch up with lost friend they find you or you will find them in time ....

I'm on facebook too. I've heard all the stories of how evil it is, but if you make sure your privacy settings are in place, and don't put your address or phone numbers on, it's fine.
My son is the most paranoid person I know when it comes to personal security, but he's on facebook too.
I agree with Marj, I can't be bothered emailing everyone. And it's great while travelling to 'post on the wall' that your okay.
I've found heaps of extended family through facebook.
Hmmmm.......I am registered but don't use it hardly, found I was spending too much time on it what with forums etc, so stopped using it. But I understand how it can be useful as well, I was thinking if I was at the caravan park I would probably attend the talk if only to see where I might have been going wrong with my settings etc.
But forget Face Book, $20 a night on some nights for Grey Nomads is as good as your going to get in any park, although a very few charging less. Only $17 a night in Bruce Rock, WA (set price for all) for a powered site and great modern facilities.

Yes it's a nice town and also as you know they have an annual Vietnam Vets Reunion there every year, as well as the usual Anzac Day.
One of my grandfathers had a farm there and my brother lives in town.
Just going off topic for a mo Vic,,,did you put pants on that monkey or did he already have them? Just curious. Don't usually see monkeys wearing pants.
Had a good talk with Leanne about facebook and she gave me some ideas as how I may benefit from facebook, not about the mechanics but more in the direction to take in finding groups of people who may share my thinking and lifestyle.
Been too busy today to think about her suggestions (spent the rest of the day with Billeeee having a long walk along the beach to South West Rocks and back again through the town).
Tomorrow perhaps after I have sorted the pictures taken today.

I loved my FB account when I was traveling and have had one for five years. I also have an open Art page, which is fun, just another tool to keep in contact, and be more visible.
