Sorry that you are not feeling well Lilly.

The only good thing is, food poisoning usually only lasts for a few days...
but...it is awfully unpleasant while you have it.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care. Pam. smile

Oh, poor you - have to be so careful with food. Especially in humid weather.

Thinking of you lilly, keep the fluids up and rest, thats about all you can do. You wonder whether its worth eating out these days, so easy to pick up bugs.

I feel for you too Lilly.

I had a bug last month. It was a particularly contagious one passed to me from someone else not washing their hands after the toilet. It was horrible too. I had to take a course of a particular antibiotic, which didn't exactly agree with me either, but I persisted.

My system still isn't back to 'normal'.

Lilly, just an old wives remedy but it has worked for my family:

Peel an apple then grate it and let it go brown

crush up a junket tablet

mix it all together and eat it.

Tastes better than some of that other stuff you can buy too, great for all ages as well

Grated apple has always been a good one. Also Condensed milk, a spoonful, was always used back in the old days.
Good old chicken soup seems to work for most things. Dry biscuits help me if I am off colour, nothing else all day.

The grated apple is no good by itself Lilly you have to have the junket tablet with it.

I find Sao Crackers are the best dry biscuit, just those and water for a couple of days.

Something I've just thought of. I didn't know this myself till my niece had diarhea?? while pregnant and just about to have bubs. Her doctor told her to have a double dose of metamucil. My sister told me about it and I tried it next time and it does work.

The dosage on the container says 1 and half teaspoons mixed in water. So for dairhea you take 3 tspns mixed in water up to 3 times a day.

You should only have to do that for the one day and will correct your situation.

I like to use natural remedies wherever possible, but they never seem to work for me with my condition.

I go straight for the Gastro Stop. You can buy it over the counter at the chemist. I always carry it in my medical box when travelling.

I have no idea what's in it but it works a treat.

I know what you mean Beth, I have Diastop which I bought in NZ but rarely use them.
The Metamucil is as natural as you can get being psyllium husks and if a doctor would prescribe it to a pregnant woman who had her baby a week later can't do anybody any harm.

Lilly - you probably are a bit dehydrated, so need to get some electrolytes back in your system, head to the chemist tomorrow and get some stuff called "Electrolyte" or something like that - blackcurrent or orange flavours I think, and you can get them to freeze as iceblocks, good for kids, but ok if you are stil lhaving trouble keeping stuff down. Just suck on them often, the chemist will be able to help you anyway.

I dont take anitibiotics unless i have no other choice and that because as we get older we may need them to save our lives so if body not use to them they will have better effect well that the plan away . This week is first time in two years i have taken them .

I do normaly keep heathy other the cold and a problem with a kidney this year ..I have in been in good health .

I don't understand the use of Metamucil or Psyllium. Isn't that for constipation? I mostly have to stick to a low fibre diet and no dairy.

I can't have anything too high in fibre either so that's why the apple and junket tablet are the best thing for me.

Thats right Beth, but used as a double dose the doctor said it reverses the action.
I can't have a lot of fibre either because of all my problems but can use that when needed for that purpose, but not as a regular dosage for constipation. Strange isn't it.

I seem to remember a Cornflour and water mix being used for both Constipation and and the opposite, in the old days.

Cheers,

Sheba.
