my usb tv stick has a dongle that you can plug an ordinary aerial plug to, and this aerial works with that. I have tried it.If you want ,I will take pics of the dongle and the laptop. Bill

Mt Toshiba lap top has an inbuilt TV tuner.

Plugged it into one of the TV outlets in the van  .. via a splitter off the Winegard with wingman. Worked well.

Took me a while to figure out that the the default setting on windows media centre was RECORD!  Fixed that & haven't used it since.  I almost never watch TV when vanning.

I have a Saturn Fringe Area antenna which works very well when using my dongle.

I bought a painters pole 1.2 mtrs extending to 2.4 mtrs which I bolt to the rear light protector when I stop overnight.

If you are after reception away from towns you can think about using the VAST satellite TV system. I use it with my laptop.

You need a usb TV stick for the laptop that takes AV input and just plug the VAST decoder into that.

Cheers,

Nichol

If I were to be in the market for a van antena, I would go the Saturn, even thou my Winegard/wingman is great.

Yes Bill, I was recording the incoming TV.   Maybe I clicked the red button  (record)   by mistake, thinking that it was the    start    viewing button.  I'll look a bit closer next time.

There are many types of devices with a TV tuner in then, recorders, set top boxes, TV sets, computer dongles and computers with built in cards. They all receive the same signal so they all need the same range of antennas. The type of antenna only varies with your location, a powerful antenna in fringe areas down to a wet piece of string in very high signal areas.

Also you don't have to worry about the salesmens crap about "Digital" antennas. There is no difference between antennas for digital and analogue signals.

i can help with a video of mine going, hope it helps you out,

also i was using windows media center in that video but the sticks often come with there own software, so you can say set it for a show to record while your out sight seing and watch it later..
also if travelling you may or may not pick up all the digital channels,

i get them all when at home,

Darling the Saturn is a dodgy lousy seriously over priced aerial. Darling Jacko had the unfortunate experience of a Saturn. Darling Jacko returned the Saturn for a credit in 10 days and would have done it sooner if I could have got back to where I had the dodgy Saturn fitted. Darling the Saturn would not receive TV where my previous little aerial worked in 2 location. Darling if you were explained the technicalities of TV aerials you would understand why the Saturn is a dodgy stodgy lousy performer. Darling same as a Winegard useless in vertical or cross polarisation areas.

Sorry its been a while since I asked the question...and so many people have given great responses.

I don't have power for a booster..I'm free camping in my Vito van not a caravan. Do these aerials have boosters?I returned the Kaiser Baas stick...and am trialling another one from Dick Smith next...along with some external rabbit ears from DS as well.

Would like to know if any of these good aerials work without a booster in case this current set of stuff also doesn't work out.

Thanks ...Denise
