This is not a nice subject, but I feel it's worth a word of warning.
While I was away,,Bundaberg actually,,I came down with a belly bug. I already have Ulcerative Colitis, which has been under control for several years.
I had diarrhea and a terrible fever, but no vomiting. I thought I may have had a bit of food poisoning, but didn't go to a doctor til I got home.
After having blood tests and stool tests last week, I found out today that I have Campylobacter jejuni/coli, which is a very contagious bacterial infection.
Hope it's not like the infection I got last April, antibiotics didn't help and it's still hanging around and doing horrible things to my blood into the bargain. Off to the Doc again on Thursday.
Thats a bit of a shock Beth, do hope you are feeling a lot better. Do you have any idea how you might have caught it.
Funny you should say Bundaberg as I ended up in hospital there nearly 3 years ago. Severe pain in my right hand side at waist level. the pains were coming on in waves like spasms. I was rolling around the emergency waiting room floor with each one. They did all sorts of tests and kept me in over night. After strong painkillers I was fine in the morning but very weak. They never did find out what it was.
I'd driven down from St Lawrence to Bundaberg that day, and had stopped at a roadhouse and bought a savoury mince jaffle from the hot box. In hindsight, it wasn't hot enough. I suspect this was how I picked it up. By that night, staying with friends in Bundy, my stomach had turned into a volcano. I was only going to stay 2 nights, but ended up staying the third night before going on to my sister at Cooloola Cove.
Luckily I wasn't camping but stayed in their house. I had terrible chills and had to pile on the blankets. And I was taking Imodium but it wasn't helping.
Again, in hindsight, I should have gone to a doctor there like my friend wanted me to.
I still wasn't well when I got to my sisters, and promptly curled up in bed and slept for a couple of hours.
The next day, finally back in Brissy at my daughters, and felt a little better, so still didn't go to the doctors. The following day was when I fell and sprained my ankle! So I still didn't get to the doctor for several days.
I guess I just thought it was a bug that would pass, but this thing doesn't pass that easily apparently. Lesson learnt!
I had another experience in Bundy on another trip several years ago too Marj.
My daughter and I were walking along the foreshore at Bargara when I suddenly got this God awful pain under the arch of my foot. I couldn't walk on it at all. Annie got me into the Base Hospital and they were useless. Didn't really come up with a diagnoses, and gave me anti-inflammitories after I specifically told him of the UC and that I couldn't take them.
I ended up having to wear an arch support insert in my shoes for months.
Hope it's not like the infection I got last April, antibiotics didn't help and it's still hanging around and doing horrible things to my blood into the bargain. Off to the Doc again on Thursday.
Gee it would be nice to feel AOK again.
Gee Ma, I hope it's not the same. My blood tests aren't good at ther best of times without this thing screwing it up all the more.
As well as the UC, I have Splenic Atrophy, which is a miniscule, almost non-existence spleen. No idea why or how long it's been that way, and it was quite accidental that they discovered it, but it can cause all sorts of problems in the body too.
my results weren't all that good but did expect it.
Unfortunately any far reaching trips are on the backburner until things get sorted.
Will have a couple of three weeks down at Moruya as it's only an hour away from home and follow up appointments.
That's no good Ma. Maybe try the red clover tea. I couldn't remember the name when I was out today, but I did ask at the health shop. She said coloidal silver is great for all sorts of problems in the body, or olive leaf extract too. But, from experience, I'd suggest getting the olive leaf capsule, not the liquid. It tastes foul!
