Just between you and me, I think Annie is enjoying caring for Mummy!
She's a good girl, very caring and thoughtful. She had to go out today, but she's set me up on the lounge with everything I need around me. And son, d-i-l, and grand-daughter are coming to visit me later.
Take it easy Beth, Keep your feet up and mend. I did the same some years ago, maybe about 8 years. The day before I was to leave Qld to drive back here. Walked backwards out of a door, landed flat on my back. In extreme pain, ended up putting my dog into kennels for two weeks and spending that time resting up on Bribie Island in a motel until able to drive again. Drove home all the way to Vic in my slippers and spent weeks getting physiotherapy at the local hospital. Take care.
I did the other ankle about 2 ears ago. I chipped the bone that sticks out on the side...don't know what it's called...so had to stay at my sisters house, which was flat. They lived nearby at that time, but were away. Their daughter(a nurse) was housesitting for them, so she helped me as much as she could between working.
It's times like this that I wish I had a place that wasn't all steps. My daughters house is the only one of all my family with no steps.
It's not ideal staying here, although I am grateful. Now it seems her step son is having a party here tonight for his girlfriends birthday! She knew nothing of it.
I hope my son can take me home with him. No way am I staying here for a bunch of 18 year olds drinking, smoking and swearing all night long!
My son etc are all crook, so wasn't keen to go up there, so he brought me here. No steps here. My girlfriend and I haven't been able to catch up since I got home, so this gives us the perfect opportunity to gasbag as long as we can stay awake.
My daughter text me awhile ago to say the stepson has cancelled the party, the little s**t!! After all that!!
ive have done both ankles in the past, not at once , and re sprained ne again last year, i only have 3 steps out the front and back, none inside.. dad has only one step at his place at the front door..
I'm the only one of my sister and two brothers who had healthy ankles, until about 2 years ago, when I broke my left ankle.
Now I've badly sprained my right.
My sister has been doing hers for many years. A few years ago she actually did both at once by slipping off the caravan step. Now that was difficult to deal with!
On one of her falls years ago she dislocated her elbow as well as spraining her ankle!
So maybe I'm just trying to catch up with her,,,not!
I pulled ligaments in my ankle when we went to Darwin the first time. In Kakadu and John wanted to take a sunset photo at Ubirr Rock (as you do), and me, seeing people walking with tour guides in sandals, and pushing babies thought it would be okay to just walk up in my sandals. Stood on a rounded rock covered in sand, ankle went over, much pain, unable to walk, stumbled to a rock to lean on, John just said, "told you to wear boots", and hurried off to get his photo. A ranger advised me to stay where I was, but hobbled up to the top, and back down - headed to Darwin next day for bandages and strapping, and ice - but that night the only cold thing we had was beer cans! Kept it strapped till we got home about three weeks later, and sports physio worked on it for six weeks, thouhg I did manage to play in a racquetball grand final in that time, and win! (Ankle heavily strapped by physio - and against his advice!)

Wow! That's amazing Jules! The mind can make your body do so much when you really put your mind to it.
I used to climb up on the roof of the Troopy to take photos, and one time at Ayres Rock I did the same but lost my footing and ended up hanging by one leg unpside down like a c.o.c.k.atoo hanging off the wires! People were gasping and looking over while the 'psycopath' just shook his head and helped me down. He 'punished' me for days over that one. As if I did it on purpose!
I was bruised very badly all down the back of that leg. Hence I stopped climbing onto the roof.

I fell into the brine tank full of icy water which kept the prawns fresh until we could pack and snap-freeze them. Oh, I was working on a prawn trawler at the time. The ledge around the tank wasn't very high, and as I stepped away from the washer the boat lurched and I was left hanging off the edge of the tank, one leg hanging in the tank caught up in the refrigeration coils. I didn't break my legs, but the bruising and pain was intense for about 4 or 5 days, and touchy for another 3 months. My legs were black, blue and purple, plus swelling and grazing from the fibreglass surface. Everyone was very helpful and did my jobs while I was incapacitated. The boss wouldn't take me to town to a doctor. When he fell and kicked something with his big toe he headed to town really quickly for medical attention. What a sook! The last time I actually played Netball, a long time ago, I went down with a seriously sprained ankle. That took nearly a year to be right. Now I have arthritis everywhere. I think that's life. I hope you're ok soon Beth. It's very hard to drive and sightsee with a gammy leg. Take care.

Yes, it's feeling a lot better today Marj, thanks.
I think it's because I've been able to keep it elevated and had people waiting on me! haha
I'm back at my daughters tonight after having a lovely catchup with my friend. At this rate, I reckon I will probably be back on my feet by Tuesday. I still have to clean out Lucy and Gypsy before I leave here, so maybe I'll be home on Wednesday.
It's nice spending this extra time with my grandson and daughter anyway, so I'll just lap it up a bit longer.
That's nice for you. Take it easy, put your foot up until the swelling reduces, and try to keep off it. Sprains can be a slow recovery, with tenderness for weeks. Go steady and lap up the attention. What do you have to do to get it? Sprain an ankle? Pass. Actually I did have my ankle damaged a few months ago by a Coles staff member pushing one of those large display trolleys. I ended up with bruised bone but no permanent damage. It's still sore at times. After reporting it to Wesfarmers I was compensated. I didn't get any attention from anyone then either.

I did this in a shopping centre underground carpark. The concrete floor is painted, which I've never seen in a carpark before, then the parking bay lines are painted over that. This is what I slipped on, the paint on paint. My shoes were a contributing factor but not the cause. When I said I slipped on the line, centre management woman rubbed her shoe over it and said it wasn't slippery. Then she looked at my shoes and said, 'oh there's no tread left on them!' I said ' I only bought them 2 weeks ago!' So she was obviously trying to make out it wasn't their fault.
Thanks Pam. I managed to walk about a bit yesterday, although it's still a little tender and swelled up a bit. Daughter ordered me back on the counch with it raised.
I'm going home today, and I have a doctor appointment this arvo to find out the rersult of the blood test I had on Friday for the Colitis flareup too.
But I feel good within myself, not letting it all get me down.
Yes, came home yesterday Marj. Between getting to the doctor and doing a little shopping, boy my ankle was aching last night.
Then this morning, I had to go to QML first thing, go back to the shops for another load, and now home with my foot up again. Back to QML again tomorrow.
Still, it's good to be in my own home doing my own thing. Number 2 son popped in last night, so I got him to unload the car for me. That was a blessing. Now I have this great big mess on the living room floor.
No ice cream Marj. It's all my stuff from my trip. You know, bedding that needs washing, a port...suitcase for you southeners etc etc.
I did manage to get a load of washing done and hung out.
This place is all steps. 5 steps down from my car pad, then a downward sloping path, 5 more steps down, 2 steps up to my porch. Then if I need to go to the laundry it's 5 steps up from my living area.
As you can see, my landlords house is built into the side of a hill. But I have a pool outside and bush at the back, it's cheap, and he's a great landlord, so I reckon it's worth the occassional inconvenience.
Take care Beth - might try and get over to see you soon, if that's ok. Just finished a month of Christmas in July celebrations at my bowling club - we have had at least one, sometimes two busloads of people out to for lunch, celebrating Christmas in July - almost every day - as well as a 90th birthday and 50th wedding anniversary celebration (different days), our normal bowling days, and all the other events we have here on a regular basis. Starting at 7 - 8 am - setting tables, all the Christmas trimmings, and all the stuff in the kitchen. Plus, last week I bowled five days in a row, and played two games of squash - no wonder I am tired. Wish I had someone to take care of me - but oh, well - I enjoy meeting all the different people from all over Brisbane.

You have way too much energy girl! I'm only jealous.
Yes, it'd be greast to finally meet Jules. I'm happy to drive to Boonah if that suits you better. Who wants to come to the city when there's country roads to travel!
