I have to get a gas cert for my motorhome. How much do they cost in your area? The plumbers/gas fitters on the island where I live are rip pff merchants or not very good, so I interested to know what they cost. Thanks, Bill.
where is your motorhome on the island or over in Townsville there was a gas company across from the dalrymple hotel they are the ones I got to do my van.
The 1979 Hi Ace campervan that I bought recently had previously had gas and the little doorway on the side for the gas bottle was already in place although the rest of the connections were unusable, no longer acceptable in the current usage criteria.
I bought a two burner unit with a grill plus the bottle, regulator, installation and certification. The overall cost was $913 at a local Gold Coast certification outlet. The location was in place so I had to buy a unit that fitted the metal lined box with the sliding lid.
Owch! I hope it doesn,t cost me that much. Everything is working, and all I need is a cert to say that it works, and then I can get a roadworthy, and change the rego to my name.
Bill, when I had Myrtles roadworthy done there was no mention of getting a new gas cert. Everything was there, in place and working. Gas goes to the stove and fridge and all works well. Nobody said anything, not even VicRoads , when I went to get new rego. Maybe you only have to get a cert if first fitting it out.
Don,t know. Thats the problem. I will ring QLD Trans tommorrow. General consensus is I have to get one. but I hope I am wrong.Every thing works, and is there, so maybe you are right. I hope so.
When I transferred my van's rego from NSW to WA there were 2 local authorised dealers in Broome who would inspect the van. One did house visits and one did not. So I called them out, and the bloke mainly focussed on the gas fittings and lines throughout the van. It passed with flying colours and only cost me about $100 for the call-out. To take the van into the other bloke would have cost me the same. They were both vehicle dealers and service centres (garages). I don't know if you have to go to a gas plumber or a garage in Qld. It shouldn't cost $900 wherever you go. I think that cost included a lot of work to bring the gas system up to date and acceptable standards, not just the inspection and clearance.

When I brought my van from WA, first kept rego in WA (used brothers address) and no gas cert required, but when I transferred rego to QLD had to get gas cert.
Hi Bill, I just rereg. a boat trailer here and they wanted to know if it had gasfitted.. In Qld you have to have a gas dert. but not in Vict, where you can do your own install. as long as its all done to regulation. AND the reg for the trailer here was $71 for 6 months, Vict $35 for the whole year??? Good luck with the gas man...

Have a local fitter looking at the van tonight. He said that the cert was $100 plus gst, plus parts. Will be interesting to see what happens. Will post results.
Gst, thanks for your help. I will post the results.I just had the gas fitter have a look at the gas system in the motorhome , and he say that all he has to do is a test on Sunday, and fill in all the serial numbers on the paperwork. I hope its as simple as it sounds. Will keep in touch.
