Canowindra Caravan Park

Hi All,

Having just posted a critical report on the Lighning Ridge Hotel/Motel C.P. I thought that, in the interests of even handedness I should post this. We stayed at the above for six days two weeks ago. It is a council owned park with  husband and wife caretakers. There are only 20 powered sites down by the Lachlan River. Amenities are old but very well looked after. Oodles of hot water in the showers.

$18.00 a night and if you stay for two nights the third one is free! No charge for the washing machines and dryers. On top all that we got a gift of scented soap in a paper bag. I hope that all Nomads passing through Canowindra will be able to give them some support.

[ for those of you like me, who pronounced the name as it is spelt, I was told by the locals to pronounce it  Canowndra, the I is silent}

PS. I forgot to say that Canowindra is 33 klms north of Cowra on the Orange road.

The same council also has caravan parks in Molong and Cudal at the same rates. Their web site is www.cabonne.nsw.gov.au Rod

I hope BIG4 keep an eye on this forum.

That is the type of park we like, and the price we like to pay, drop their prices a little to travellers that don't want, and don't use all their fancy additions, and they may get a lot more of the Nomad clients

I agree about the fees vs volume.
We all know it costs to run these places, but if the turn-over and occupancy rates could be kept higher longer, the returns would manifest themselves.
No one wants to spend $40 per night for a power point and use of amenities.
Going to the tropics in the wet season is a wonderful, exciting and sometimes frightening experience. If you have aircon to help cope with the humidity, it's a wonderful time sitting under the awning watching the storms.
The massive volume of water which falls from the sky in a very short time is amazing.
I mention this because it's the cheapest time to go north. The weather forecast gives ample warning of cyclones and monsoonal activity, which would give campers enough time to head inland, or prepared to be stranded for a couple of weeks while the water subsides. But it is an interesting experience.
The other option is to avoid these pricey places like the Big 4's and find cheaper, well-presented council or smaller private parks which can be just as nice for less $. It's a matter of doing your homework and picking your destinations.

Yeah ,

The Cabonne Council is really going after the Grey Nomad market . Makes a welcome change from a lot of anti-nomad councils around Australia .

How about putting a report into Badgers Australian Caravan Park Reports

Those who submit reports are given membership which allows them to download the database to use when off line.
