Rezi hot water system

Hi, I'm about to buy the Rezi hot water system it about $280 , Just what to know if anyone out there has used it . I know gas is probably better but I'm trying to stay away from gas.

Why would you choose to 'stay away from gas'?

I would estimate that at least 90 percent of caravanners with HWS would have the gas option.

Given that you seem to be looking at 'free camping' , I strongly recommend that you rethink your strategy & embrace gas for heating, cooking & maybe for refrigeration.

RE: Rehi hot water system

biggrinThen give up and buy a push-bike.

If a gas installation is done correctly as it must be to comply you are then more likely to get injured in a road accident than by gas.

If you want to alternative camp then do your homework and go gas as cupie said.       Nearly all the caravans on the road run gas appliances without any problems.

To really bush camp you need good battery power, a solar setup or a generator and gas appliances for cooking and hot water.

If or when you fit gas then get it done by a qualified and licensed gas fitter.

RE: Rezi hot water system

There is no need to get nasty , whats wrong with having a geni and electric hot water , it might be a bit more expensive but I prefer not to use gas . My question was about the REZI hot water system .This set up I can install myself .And just because everyone uses gas dosnt make it the only way.

Don't take offence at our Dodg LG, once you get to know him you will know he isn't nasty at all.

Everyone of us has their likes an dislikes.  I wasn't in favour of gas either at one stage but as time has gone on I found that it was by far the easiest and most convenient, not to mention cheapest way to go.

Gennies and electric are OK too, we have that set up as well as the gas, but some places you just can't use a gennie so you have to have an alternative.

Check the gas option out a bit more thoroughly and keep an open mind for the moment, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks to Caravans Plus website.

REZI instant electric Hot water system. This very small compact unit will supply INSTANT hot water at 40 Degrees, at 2 litres per min. in a standard Caravan or Motorhome setup.

Features

Assumes a 15amp power supply of 240V and a 15 degree original water temperature.

This is perfect for above sink and basin applications, and is quite adequate for a single shower, provided the initial water temperature is NOT below, say 10 degrees. Additional accessories are required for shower installations, which are available as separate REZI items or standard plumbing fittings.

To each there own, but if the water suppy is less than 15c the hot water will be less than 40c.   Even at 40c it's not very hot for a shower.
Just my thoughts,
ozjohn.

As you'd ask for advice, it was offered with the best of intentions.
While the actual product you asked about wasn't addressed, the issue of choice was.
Many GN's on this site have a lot of travel and camping experience. They know how to "suck eggs". I'm guessing that's why you're here asking questions. If you want us to agree with you, we can, that's easy.
But if you want advice, that too is easy when it comes from the experienced.
Generators can be expensive to run, almost defeating the purpose of "free" camping. Most travellers only use generators for fridges for short times, not to intrude on the serenity of the park you're parked in, and not to disturb the peace of fellow campers. They are not popular if they are used non-stop all day, every day anywhere.
Still your choice.
Either way, unless you're a licenced plumber, I would suggest you have your installation done by a profession, qualified, licensed credible plumber.
The other option would be a two-way, gas-electric hot water service for all eventualities.
Believe it or not, we do have your best interests at heart, but ............

Probably expensive but there are diesel hot water heaters for Caravans and Motorhomes.

I think one model is combined with an air heater and another combined with a cooktop.

You could tap into your buses fuel tank.

Just another option, that is not gas.

Wasn't meant to be nasty just pratical.

You may also note that the rezi water heater probably draws a full 2000Watts ( I would check this out) when working and would require a generator of greater wattage. So weight and portability of the genny is a factor unless you are having a large one built in.

Ron and Granny both give good advise also.

Cheers Dodg.

Ok, thanks for the advice Dodg and all. The Rezi draws 3300 watts but I thought since I was going to get a 7.5kva geni for my 4500kw aircon I could use the Rezi.
I'd like the diesel heater but out of my price range, but I'm going to look into gas , at least the gas/electric set up.

Darling when did you last read about a gas explosion or leak in an RV?

Darling what are you going to use to cook and bake? Darling Jacko couldn't live without her lovely Swift fan forced gas oven for baking.

Darling sorry to say the generator crowd are so unpopular due to their complete lack of consideration for others. Darling thankfully more locations are banning generator use.

The last person to publicly use "darling" to such a prolific extent was Jeannie Little, and we lost her recently. Now please make it stop.
Sorry Jacko, it may be the way you address everyone where you are, but I personally find it slightly off-putting, and makes your threads difficult to read. The context gets lost in the "Darling" thing.
Can we adopt the KISS principle please?

Of the gas/ electric hot water heaters available the 'Suburban' probably enjoys the best reputation.
Cheers, ozjohn.

As previously suggested there are many places where a generator is either not permitted or at least inappropriate so being dependent on one for refrigeration when not on "ground" power is not an option. Likewise a hot water system if you plan to mainly free camp or be on unpowered sites.

If you run a genny all night in some places don't be surprised if next morning you find it in the nearest creek or worse, or perhaps all your tyres flat.  Even quiet gennies can sound loud in the dead of night.

A 7.5 kva generator is a serious one for grey nomadding and with that running an air conditioner you'll be about as popular as a pork sausage in a mosque at any campsite.
