2011 Census.

Don't know if every-one knows this, [ I didn't 'till just a few minutes ago.] but you can now fill in your Census Form Online.

http://www.abs.gov.au/websitedbs/d3310114.nsf/home/2011+census+fact+sheet:+ecensus

You can fill it in from July 28th.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Thanks for that info. particularly relevant to those of us "on the road" on Census night.

I've bookmarked the site.

Apparently this is only the second year, and it's because they know there are so many "Nomads" on the road these days.

Cheers,

Sheba.

They'll be doing elections online soon. If they can do census, on leave or not, and taxes, not in Texas or in taxis, why can't we vote online at election time
Try to explain why you want a WA registration with an SA residential/postal address. I successfully did. Gee I'm good. Just ask me, I'll tell you.

What day is the census? I knew one was coming up as son's partner in Biggenden has applied to do the one up there. She said they make good money for the small amount of work they have to do.

When I worked on the 2001 census in Canberra it was freezing cold, took much longer than I expected due to people on my list not being home/answering their door and I had to make dozens of return calls. Never again! I worked out I had earned about $2 an hour.

She's applied to do Biggenden, only a few hundred people in the town and the weather is always warm. I think she has to do some of the outlying farms as well. Not sure if she got the job or not.

I did it in 2001 also.  I also found it not worth the money by the time I paid tax and the amount of work I actually did - what with having to do return calls for people not home, being abused by one person as they didn't believe in the census, etc., etc.

The fact that I was working full time also didn't help as it made for some very late nights. Thought it would help the family budget as I was a single mum supporting 3 kids.  Won't bother doing it again - will leave it to others that aren't already working.

I am working the census this year - have a really good supervisor, and hope it all goes well - doing an area well outside my own, lots of farms and big properties - and it is great that they have bought in the E-Census - means I don't have to go back - apparently I get a text to say it has been sent, and I still get paid for it - so all good. Not bad money in my opinion, and as I really don't have much actual "income" to declare this year the tax issue will be negligible hopefully. As for abuse - we have been told to just walk away - call the supervisor, it is his job to revisit and state the law regarding the census collection.
Anyway, looking forward to it - and also seening a new area.
Am currently in Eton - just outside Mackay - weather - about 22 - surrounded by camels, goats, chooks, pea****s, dogs, cats and I don't know what else - oh,yes four dogs, two kids - having a lovely time.

I was able to vote on-line in the NSW elections earlier this year when I was on Kangaroo Island (SA).  It was only available to those eligible to vote absentee.  I'm not aware whether or not this is available elsewhere.

G'Day,

I contacted the ABS by email y'day and had a return phone call this arvo.

1) caravan parks - On census night all caravan park managers will have a form for all those staying and will distribute for completion.

2) Free camps - A census collector will visit as many of the prominant free camp sites in their area and distribute forms for completion.

3) Off road, isolated sites, - All servo's and road houses will have forms that can be collected and completed on census day

4) on-line, You will have to ring 1300 338 776 (after 18 July) for a "login Number" to complete the  "e census" form online.

Saturation advertising will be conducted by the Govt. closer to Census Night

Hope this helps

Doug

Thanks Doug,

Knew when the Census was, and that we would be away from our home state, liked the idea we may be able to
'do it' on line, however your extra info is real handy to know - again thanks

Interesting that I find out about this intrusive inquisition on the GN site. Not a word about it in the media.
Must find an obscure national park in WA to camp in for that weekend so I can avoid the whole nonsense. Details of my personal life are just that: personal. They have nothing to do with the Federal Government. Cheers, Tony

Sorry tonyd - the government probably know a lot about you anyway - amazing what they already know if yu go to centrelink for anything -I think you can just take the form, fill out what you want, and hand it back - (from what I can gather) - I don't think you are obliged to answer questions about money or religion or stuff like that -
Anyway, that's the way I see it.
