Hot Off The Press Wee Waa/ Narrabri.

The other half went to Wee Waa/Narrabri for the weekend camping. He asked me to tell all that there were no mice, it was not cold, no frost at all. He slept in his sway with just one blanket. smile

Watson's Bakehouse is still not opened on Sundays though, which was a big disappointment for them. It had become a ritual to stop there on Sunday mornings on the way home and have coffee and pies apparently. smile

The only place I found mice coming home was at Moonie. I chased 8 out of the toilet block, so they wouldn't run up my leg when I wasn't watching. Then I sprinkled a ring of Napthalene flakes around Myrtle and slept soundly all night. Can understan why mice wouldn't come near, the smell was quite strong.

Surprised to hear it wasn't cold in Narrabri, the night I stayed there was a horrific thunderstorm. If I could get Myrtle A ok will think of heading back up there but not sure of the cold all the way up through NSW. The cold and frosts are bad usually.

We want to head off at the end of this month and we always go that way Marj so I was pleased to hear about the mice. smile

We never stop at Narrabri though, its too close to home for our first night and have never really worried us before but it just seems so much colder this year to me anyway.

I don't know what it would be like from your way up mate, I would say reasonably chilly though, it usually is out that way isn't it.

hi all, we are at Burren Junction, water is lovely, days are warm and yes we have mice. We have caught quite a few in the traps. Rob went down to the toilets and a rat jumped off the wall in front of the mens and ran over his foot. Made him jump!!! He will have to seal around the holes that let the gas pipes etc into the van with silicone to stop them getting in. Leaving the traps set seems to catch them. All food in containers.

They are quite friendly and won't eat much.

No seriously, keep all food in plastic containers. Very important.

The carpet snakes keep the mice down here, nice little darlings they are. the camo colour is nice to see in the garden as they get the last of the after noon sun.. must think you carnt see them... would rather have them than mice anyday....

I didn't find any mice at Narrabri Showgrounds either Pejay and that was only 2 days after Moonie. Would have been the night of Sunday 22nd May. We just missed each other as that was 14 days ago today.

I came across a carpet of mice on the highway east of Mildura last month. Maybe the cold weather is slowing down their progress and breeding practices.
Rats are another thing.

The other half says they were camped on the Namoi River near Cubbaroo which is on private property. Maybe they only land where there is a bit of traffic and an abundance of scraps. smile

In all my travels no where did I see any mice running across the road in front of me or running around at my freestops. Only in the toilets in Moonie, once I got rid of them out of the van on the way up.
I think they must congegrate at night for warmth as the next morning when I went in for a shower there was not one left, even the 5 frogs had gone as well.

Maybe they had a visit from Joe Blake! (rhyming slang)

The mice seem to have eased up lately, haven't caught one for ages and yep they open up all your pkts if you haven't transferred foodstuff to containers. And, square or oblong containers are easier to pack and stack. I think the cold weather may be thinning them out !! thank goodnes

I had a mouse in the 'ouse after Ceduna, however the accommodation couldn't have been up to it's standard as it left of it's own accord! None up here in Carnarvon but plenty of those pesky midges.
