Wouldn't it be interesting if we could have a big map of Australia which we could all log our current positions into!!!!!

We bought a Mio GPS that has the hema maps installed and when we come home from a trip we can put it on Google maps and show our journey but we can't save it which is unfortunate. no

To have a big one we could all add to would be just brilliant Pricey.

Maybe Wombat and Gubby could put their computer talents to great use and make us one. wink

The problem as I see it though is that the police, the tax dept, as well as other govt depts, not to mention the kids we are running away from, will all know where we are & can get in touch / find us.

Not much difference to me as I put where I am in my signature anyway.

Cheers

I have some small (about 10" sq) stitcheries of each state map that I carry with us and I stitch in our route and o/nt stops with a knot - this we we know where we've been, but the others don't. I intend to make some mini hanging quilts from them.

At present in Canberra, soon to be heading home to SE Qld before getting on the road again for Tasmania - hmm, that makes at least 4 stitcheries I will have to have in my craft 'bucket' to take with me.

I realise that this is not for everyone, but just my way of keeping track of our travels.

My maps are getting a bit messy with all my travels marked on them.
I collect hat pins, mostly from places I've stayed at, but I have added more a few from out of the way places.
I used to collect cloth badges and sewed them on a jacket I had in the 70's. It's a bit crowded, the pockets are full, and it's now stowed under the bed for posterity.
I can't help myself.

yep, been having a look, I can input my gps showing our track and camp sites for last year but I can't find a way of putting it in here so that others can also put their trips in, does your son know how we can do that?

I have been able to save the map page as a .KLZ file, but that is as far as I can get.

Hey Wombat.  If someone puts a map on they'll be the only one's that will be able to access it.  I think it would have to be done by the site management, so maybe we'd better see if Cindy could organise something....  confuse

FF, to save your own maps in GE goto File/Save/save places as, choose a file name and save it as a .KMZ file, next time you open GE select the file name you saved.

I am not an expert on GE have just had a play with it

pricy43, thanks will await your reply.

I am not sure this can be done in GE, if it can be done I think the map would get very messy with everybodies trips criss crossing each other, but each members trip map might be a better idea, ie: just as an example my last trip, I input gps info of trip and just do a screen grab and post a pic here, will try that later today.

Was thinking more of a map where you perhaps have a number and it just shows where you are at the moment. You could then log in and change your position as you moved. Will quiz son some more and see if he can talk about it at work. He is a web developer and is pretty busy right now but we might be able to get there in the end. I'll keep working on it.

In google map you can log in and create a public map but i didn't quite understand how to share it for others to add to. It has collaborate with email addresses somehow

Hi Pam, I am able to send a file to an email address but it will not allow the other person to add their position on that map or over the tracks on my map, it only sends a .KLZ file to the other email address.

Oh well, I will keep having a deeper look into GE.
