Vehicle Shades.

Picture 014.jpgPicture 019.jpgPicture 016.jpgThought I'd post these for any-one thinking about awnings etc.     These are detatchable Shades, and BCF has them for $99.[in Qld] at the moment.   These pics are the large one.

There is a smaller one, but I didn't make a note of the price.

They don't have the Blue one any-more apparently.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Hi Sheba, I've got the basic one from BCF a few years ago cost about $50, so easy to put up/down, takes up no room, might have to look at this one as like the side panel for bit more privacy.

Can you give me a rough idea how long it takes to put up ?   The extra privacy was what interested me, and I thought it might be quicker than rolling out the Fiamma.

Cheers,

Sheba.

mine hasn't got the sides Sheba, but putting up only takes a couple of minutes, in windy conditions suction caps can come off, so I have a spot where I can tie mine down. I will probably get the one with the sides as well, use that one for the side of the van, and my current one for the back of the van.. my awning is one with a rope you pull thru a tube channel thingy.. but for the life of me can't do it on my own, quite easy with two..but not one, plus awning is very heavy and takes up alot of space so leave it at home now and use shades instead, will look at getting roll out awning one day but at the moment for what I'm doing, these are just great.

I'm assuming your Fiamma is similar to mine, i.e. a "wind out" awning common on campervans.  I find it very quick to wind out (and back in) and if pegged down will withstand some quite windy conditions.  I have found a Camec privacy screen http://caravansplus.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_963_967 will fit my Fiamma but is a bit tight as the track is smaller, best to buy locally so you can get a refund just in case it doesn't fit.  I think Fiamma also do a privacy screen.

I think this would be more robust than the set-up in the picture

Thanks Jim.   Will think about this option too.  Have put it in Favourites.

Hi  ..

These look good.

I often go solo in the patrol & Kayak either after red claw or just touring in the kayaks.

I sleep in the patrol & use a silver tarp fixed to a ridge pole over the roof racks (thus covering the patrol roof) and out to a couple of poles on the other side.  It is long enough to extend down close to the ground at the pole end as a privacy screen.  I use another ridge pole to hold the poles rigid.

This gives me a place to put my stuff & a table & chair in the shade.

I sometimes also use a small one man tent to store my food & engel near the patrol .. It can be rolled up & carried in the hull of the fisherman kayak when sleeping out overnight as well.

The tarp & poles are used when using the van to make a lean to out the front or rear of the awning/annex.

Where the slab is longer than the awning/annex, I peg the ridge poles across the concrete & use cable ties to hold down the sides of the annex.

All very multi purpose I suppose .. But I like the look of the arrangement in the picture.
