Pilliga Princess

What I know about "Th Princess"

Th Princess was thought to have "lost it" in the city & just went bush . She , th

princess , reckoned her family , especially her two daughters just wanted her money.

Another theory - she worked on a property around Gunnedah , fell pregnant to the

boss , hung around Boggabri for awhile . Had her baby taken off her , she snapped ,

went to & just wandered around th Pilliga . She did have a (base) camp about 40k in

from the "T" at Coonabarrabran . She had the wildest head of white hair you could

imagine (probably exacerbated by me , cause I've been bald since19) .

She wandered up & down th Newell - Only as far nth as Narrabri , but south to

West Wyalong . She had several friends with th Ipec drivers . Probably how she got

most of her lifts . I met her once , I was having a sleep in my truck at the top of the

hill , just up from th "T" nth of Coona , bang , bang on th door , give me a lift up to

my camp , no , let me sleep . I want a lift up to my camp  . I was awake by then .

I had heard - th Princess used to come along to each truck , open th door , get in

& make the driver tale her up to her camp . Only place I have ever locked my truck

door while I slept . Cranked up th old girl , didn't stop till Goodiwindi . Funnily , I have

slept in th middle of th Pilliga , knowing th "Legends , myths" of th Princess & Yowie ,

& never locked th doors there . But , I am someone who , when going past th radio

telescopes outside Parkes , used to get on both cb radios and ask if anybody out

there can hear me , come & get me , there's no form of intelligent life down here &

read ghost stories in th little parking area halfway up Bollivia hill . Back to Princess .

I is thought she ran out onto th road to get a lift , but misjudged how close the

Stockmaster cattle truck was , as she ran across infront of a southbounder waving

her arms for th northbounder . note- where her camp was - it was at the bottom of

a hill at a creek - either way a Semi would be flat out , as to keep his revs up to get

up th hill th other side . It IS Allways very Dark at night in the Pilliga , I have found it

only darker in most places in the Territory . So to see her at the last moment , one

would have no chances of stopping . I suppose now , it adds to the Legend of the

Pilliga Princess(bless her soul) . The ghost of the Pilliga Princess .

Never heard the story before this.

Just came through the Piliga on Monday/Tuesday.

Just north of Coonabarabran there was a posse of Police with a helicopter at one of the rest places.Looked like a briefing being held with about 50 police and rescue personel.I watched the news and there was nothing.Wondered if someone was lost or it was a big drugs raid.

Anybody know?

Hello, we live in Baradine, just nth of Coonabarabran. On Tues all mobile phones received a message from NSW Police advising there was an elderly gentleman lost sth of Narrabri. His vehicle was found near one of the rest places. Sadly the old man must have wandered off and was found dead.
It was the first time I had received a message like this from the Police, wondered if it was a hoax at first.

That is sad ValnRob. I wonder why he would wander away from his vehicle, maybe not feeling well.

We had the same messages for the first time during the floods a couple of months back. Gives you a fright when you first get them, Panic, what do I do now??

There are some very interesting stories of the Pilliga Princess and the Yowie in this area. If you are passing thru Coonabarabran or Narrabri, there are some really nice areas to visit near Baradine. Sculptures in the Bush are excellent. Salt Caves, Sandstone Caves, the Endeavour Centre in Baradine township and the Baradine Local Aboriginal Land Council are well worth a look. We have some good bird watching tracks too. There you are I sound like a good advertiser for my township, but it is well worth the effort to see.

Yes Marj, does give you fright, but it is probably a very good idea that the Police can access Mobile phones in cases of emergencies. Most people including children have a mobile phone. Nowadays some people do not have a landline. I want to get rid of mine when the contract time is up.

I'm a truckies daughter and have run the Pilliga on many occasions. Saw the fog and the minmin lights myself. I am looking to interview folks that might have known or seen the princess before she died. I'm looking to set the record straight regarding the tales of her being a prostitute or crazy woman. What was true, what wasn't. We will be heading through around the 12th Feb 2019. Anyone with info, please email me on joelenekent@gmail.com Or message me on FB. https://www.facebook.com/jo.kent.353
