To be Free Or not to be free!

I noticed the head lines this week.....If the Caravan park operaters  did'nt charge like wounded bulls then maybe, Just Maybe I might stay a couple of nights myself.....Though I doubt it......Don't they realize  (The Motels and C V Parks managers) that there is going too be an explosion of travellersd own the track Looking for free camping...Price has a lot  to do with it of course...But I believe the main reason is that we love open spaces and camp fires...I'v been down this track so many times I'm Hoarse

I agree Jimbo.  I have found the people who free camp seem much more friendlier than quite a lot that only go to caravan parks.

Not saying that everyone in parks is antisocial or anything like that but I do think that being in parks limits you somewhat in your approach to people.  Just my thought, rightly or wrongly.

I much prefer to be out in the "open" and there is nothing like a camp fire.  I think I have only come across 3 parks with fire pits in 5 months of travelling staying in both parks and free camping

Thats why I prefer Bush Camps......not necessary free ones......just..an area where you can spread your arms....as FF said.......spend your evening .star gazing.....sitting around a campfire with good friends.......not many CPs you can do that

I would imagine open fires may attract a higher insurance premium in some instances as well, at the van parks.

Yep, we have stayed in many bush camps where you pay and loved them Smokey. smile

Couldnt agree more - when management and I set off after we wound up the business we stayed for 10 days in a which will be unnamed caravan park in the general area of Hervey Bay. While the spot was undoubetly lovely it was very expensive, you had to be shoe horned into your site with a tractor with a ball on the front. The other campers - I have never met such a rude bunch. They were all regulars and had been going there for years, you could be in mid conversation with them and a "regular" would come up and they would break off in mid sentence to chat to their "mate". Enough of it for us, give us a bush camp, a dipper shower and a drop toilet any day. Our one splurge for the year is a fortnight at Red Rock, between Coffs Harbour and Grafton, its a lovely spot with big sites and we can have the grand kids down for the school holidays. See ya in the bush.... Pete and Gail

Nothing like the fredom of the bush we love it and have tried a few caravan parks but hate the feeling of being hemmed in Helena.

We were about to set up in a free camp in a beautiful spot last year, when 2 carloads of young people arrived, and their first priority was to get their 4 slabs of beer cold by putting them in the creek... then they argued about whether that was the best way. We didnt stay, it looked like being a noisy night!

We've had some lovely quiet spots, but Free-camping isnt always as good as you'd expect!

No, they aren't all good Gerty.  That's why we try and set up camp between 2 and 2.30 where possible, that way if something doesn't feel right you still have enough daylight left to pack up and move further down the road.

Never got there, but I remember it being there. We had one in Brisbane too at one time. Never got to that either.

Cheers,
Sheba.

We have now been bush camped at Ned's Camp on the Coral Coast near Exmouth for nearly a week & it's been absolutely sublime. Sunny every day, swimming, snorkling or sipping a drink while watching the orange sunsets, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean splashing over the reef in the distance & to top it off we have lovely people coming & going for company, even offering some of their fishing catch for our dinner tonight.

Who could ask for more.

Cheers

Jon
