Comparing caravan parks

Hi all, home again after a lovely sojourn on the south Coast NSW. We checked on the flood situation in the Bega area... yes back in business, so off we went. First caravan park we tried (an OZparks) was too soggy to accept anybody so went to the caravan park nearby on Wallaga lake near Bermagui... just heaven! Had intended only 2 nights there but the peace was so addictive we stayed a week! smile Hardly anybody there, amenities basic but clean, cheapish at $25 per night... fishing/ beach/ bushwalking/ sightseeing/ galleries etc, heaps to do.. just sitting watching the fish jump in the lake was popular!  smilesmilesmile

Then south to Merimbula, to a much more upmarket caravan park... 5 star amenities, very fancy, but no cleaner than the older park. It wasnt noisy, but no sense of peace there. $35 a night, and it was packed! Lotsa people there, nearly all retirees (Grey Nomads) in all sorts of rigs, all lined up in rows. hmm That kind of style obviously suits a lot of people.

Are we weird that we would rather be in a peaceful, older park away from all the razza-matazz?  confuse

Don't know if you are set up or free camping Gert but you certainly can't go past the Camp ground at North Head at Moruya, lovely bush setting, plenty of room between sites and only $10pn.  Plenty of water, supply your own power and there's flushing toilets too.

Fishing either from the beach or breakwall or for those who prefer calmer climes, there's the river.

Yes Ma, we did a spot of free camping down there too.... and it was really nice. But the point I was trying to make is that the big expensive caravan parks seem to be the most popular, and I just cant understand why.

Yes, I got your point Gert and I too wonder why people would pay top dollar when you can get exactly the same at a much reduced rate if you can get over the "top" and "4" type ones.

You should have PM'd me Gert and you could have called in for a cuppa on your way through, you went within 100yards of our front door.  Maybe next time.

I too wonder why people would pay top dollar I guess it 's because they are mainly young families doing a couple of days....I wish they would  boycott these over priced and overrated tiny sites....AS most of you I have wondered through Big Four Places and marvelled at the lack of room.....No Thanks Big Four  Make your Money out of some one else

we dont mind the caravan parks, but not the big huge ones, we visited one in adelaide , some big branded place
while it was nice , it was jut too packed out, id rather a smaller cp with some nice amenities etc
you can usually find a good conversation in those kind of places, not so much with the big ones..

If you didn't stay at Delmeny Beach you missed a great stop. Overlooking the beach, wonderful and about $20 a night off peak

Dalmeny is only $10pn if you have a pension card or $60 for 7 nights.  Yes it is a lovely place.
