we left perth in march 2007, it was $2.85lt in the north and $2.99lt in the gulf. Thursday Island was $2.85 and Saibai was $5.00. they were feeling the pinch running their dinghys. so it has a way to go yet. when we got back to the mainland Townsville was .99 can you believe that. 2008. pretty irregular especially if you want to budget and are on the road for awhile.

Here on the Redcliffe Peninsula (QLD) it is anywhere from $1.49 to $1.59 (diesel), I did read that the shortfall from Lybia is being made up from Saudi. Now the Saudi's like Ghadaffi in Lybia, only keep the political lid on by repression. Should that lid blow, $2.00 per litre in the major cities would be considered extremely cheap. On world prices we do actually have "cheap" fuel

We need a National 'No buy fuel day" - never happen. To many greedy people.

Makes a mockery of what I heard an Oil Company Big-wig say on the ABC radio yesterday afternoon then.

He said there was no way it would go to $2.00 per litre in the forsee-able future.

We know they're liars, but that takes the cake.

Cheers,
Sheba.

well I guess we'll all have to put in a hiclone and a chip and a fuel cell and a nitrogen injector and a few more fuel saving devices and then we will be able to travel for almost nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!! As it means less ks for the same dollars so we need to take longer holidays to do the same trip. That could be a good thing! I guess gas will jump too as soon as the government puts on its levy which I think is quite soon.

hi biggles, i agree a no buy day wouldnt work, but, pick one brand and everyone boycott that brand for a week, presto prices would drop and the rest would have to follow suit, we do have people power if we think about it and act on it, regards, gary

On the north side of Adelaide both unleaded and diesel is $1.51 per litre at Bolivar Caltex.
In 2008 I paid $1.80 at Cairns.
The issue now is to NOT buy BP. It seems they're keeping the price high to recover the cost of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
About 3 months ago at Port Wakefield they had diesel for $1.32 per litre, and next door at the Shell and United the price was $1.25 less discount at the Shell.
Why would anyone want to pay more than 5c per litre more at BP? I don't get their "logic", but I haven't bought BP since then.
I think we're all being conned for an "essential". Like everything else, we can shop around, but we can't control anything.
We, the consumers, are being held to ransom by our short and curlies for everything we consume and every service we use.

On the Central Coast north of Sydney today we saw diesel prices ranging from $1.56 down to $1.44 - and the cheapest ones we saw were the Caltex and Shell with the 4c supermarket discount, taking them down to $1.42 and $1.40 respectively. How does the one selling at 16c per litre more stay in business ??

While we need it and won't stop buying and using fuel, we can be as selective as we like to make sure we get the best deal for our dollar.
Shop around, but don't use more fuel driving around looking for the cheapest fuel. That would be silly.

And wait till Julia brings in her (when they actually put a price on it) "Carbon Tax".

Love the way they call it CARBON (black nasty stuff) when it's a clear gas......now the mind boggles with that one ehsmile.gif
