After some good advice on here I think I will buy a 80 lt fridge / freezer from evakool... for $693 I don't think it is actually an evakool but backed by them... it consumes 2.1-2.9 amps/hr I have a 80 watt solarex panel to keep the second battery topped up when stationary is that enough... It's just me no kids opening it all day long... Can't see how much storage capacity is on battery but one bit on top says 98ah@20??? the battery also charges when the vehicle is running... will this 80 w panel be enough to charge my battery daily... Your advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks Mary
I'm no expert on this stuff .I have a similar set up as you & we are able to run the Engel,watch tv via inverter lights, computer water pumps ect & 99% of the time (providing you have sunshine by day) we can stay in one spot for up to 5 days
Hi Mary looking at what you have, 80W pannel = 4.5A output asuming you can get it to collect 4.5A for 8Hrs in one day this will put about 34 AH. Your fridge is drawing 2.9A if it ran 24Hrs that would be a consumption of 69.6 AH. Now asuming the fridge runs 50% of the time then it would use 34.8 AH . On those asumptions there will be a short fall of .8AH, so you are going to very slowly flatten your battery. I would sugest 100W would be the minimum just to power the fridge. Your battery if its 98AH then it might take a bit more than 24Hrs to discharge your battery to 50%, if there was no charging. Hope this helps. Daryl (another 80W pannel would be good)

Your power consumption sounds very conservative. I think my Engel draws about 4.5 to 5 amps
Not realy if they are using a Danfoss BD35 compressor they are capable of only drawing 2.6A which is what the compressor draws in my EvaKool Project. It is dependant on what speed the compressor is set for. Daryl
Well I just found out that the "new" waceos made in china with a wanco? motor pulls 5.5 amps... How do I know this? A chap at a CP was throwing one out a 35lt waceo. I asked why and he said it stopped and started to much.. So me being me I asked if I could have it . As I already have a 25 lt "drinks " danfoss waceo and it runs very nicly. at 3 amps.. I couldnt work out how the batt. went flat so quickly useing the newly required chineess one . I even brought a new batt. thinking the old one was stuffed. Put the meter on it and was blowen away by the 5.5amps... So my finding is if buying a waceo ask if its a danfoss or a chinees job.. The danfoss one will be over a grand the other will be around 699. This is just my findings and could be wrong. But have been known to fix the odd Engel and Waceo.....or 3 hope this helps, Bob N Bev ,in WA just now ...

The copressor they are using is a Wanbao made in China, started to look in to them. They have a control module on the side just like a Danfoss. & the compressor speed is adjustable the same asa Danfoss. The Danfoss draws 2.6A @ 2000 RPM. @ 5-6A @ 3500RPM in the CDF Waeco i have the compressor is fixed @ 2500RPM & draws 2.6A. The Waeco CD model I have the compressor current varies with load. If you select Turbo it draws nearly 6A, when a temp is set it draws about 5A & as the temp comes down the current draw & comp RPM come down. I would be Looking carefully at what the compressor is set to Bob before throwing it out.

Hi Bob. Just had a reply from the manufacturers of Wanbao compressors. There capacity is 2.5cc compared to a danfoss BD35F 2.0cc, so they are a larger compressor. RPM 2000, 43W, 146.7Btu/h speed resistor 13K. RPM 2500, 53W, 186.8Btu/h spd res 8.2K. RPM 3000,62W, 211.5Btu/h spd res 5K. RPM 3500, 72W, 245.6Btu/h spd res 2.7K. Test cond Amb 32.2 deg C.Evap temp -23.3 deg C. The control module on the side of the compressor has the same conections as the Danfoss. I gues this explains why the draw more current Model is QDZH25G.
