whats the best photo program


hi one and all,
i'm a scrapaholic and was wondering which photo program you think is best dont perticuly want to pay for one . free download would be good.
i have just bought a new PC and dont want to download somthing thats gonna eat the guts out of it.
just used widows and hp on the old one but hear theres lots of good ones out there .
so what do you have , what are your thoughts.
i hate sitting a the photo boths in kmart for ages using thiers i want to crop etc on my pc and put them on a cd. looking forward to your post

I use PaintShop Pro x3 about $120 but you can also use Gimp for free try this link http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I think you just answered my question about Clare's Kakadu photo and the animation you added to the water in one of them, Wombat! Is that the program you used to do it?
I have never used any software like Photoshop etc. as I prefer to fiddle with camera settings and take photos as they are. However, I'm now beginning to think maybe I should buy one, because there are times when things like bridge railings or power lines or people etc. spoil fantastic natural views, so to be able to remove them via software would be just great. Do you know much about it?
