Hope that they got insurance before leaving the dealer.   I know that we did.

After buying my new van in 1998, I was that unsure of my reversing skills, never having had a van before, that I got the sales person to accompany me home.  He took over the reversing duty & guess what, he remains the only person ever to back into the side fence.

Very little damage to the van thankfully  .. only damage was to the salesman's pride.

We were parked next to a couple at Airlie Beach years ago they had a brand new van and Landrover - both badly banged up... from memory when I asked them what happened, she replied along these lines...."we were leaving Sydney on the motorway doing 110ks, I had never towed before, and had to jam on the brakes...." how they were not killed I dont know. Thats right though doing 110kph and had never towed before.... still makes me shudder

When I bought the Goldstream (2nd hand - privately) I phoned my insurer and arranged to transfer the policy from my old camper trailer. They gave me an authorisation number to confirm the arrangement. I did that before I had even hooked on.

I drove off and called into a nearby caravan repair shop that does a lot of insurance work, to buy some towing mirrors and one of the things the owner of the repair business asked was did have insurance. I told him the story and he said it's surprising how many new owners pick their new rig up and drive off before arranging insurance.

Its the small things that can cost you big time, I think if I wipe out a B-double there goes the house and all we have worked for ..Insurance is cheap... Got the van the tug road side .. windscreen mulitimes. Couldnt get fishing insurance...carnt under stand them...
