For everyone asking abut these two likely problems here in Echuca the following information is out of todays paper. Firstly the floods. In todays paper are photos of Riverboat Dock, under water and right up the banks covering the seating, just the tops of tables showing. The heading is If you think this is flooded, Wait, there's more coming. There is a community meeting tonight organised by the SES and Shire to outlining procedures for evacuation and safety procedures. The river levels are expected to hit 93.8 on Sunday. The river level has exceeded the flood levels of September. There is moderate flooding in some areas and the flow is coming down slower than expected downstream of Albury. We haven't had any rain for a few days but some is expected today. The SES are lifting their presence in Echuca from today because of the high level river predictions expected.
The Mozzies. In the Paper today. Mozzie Alert. District residence are being urged to take precautions against mozzies following recent flooding across the region. The public health director said the number of mozzies were high. mozzie activity has increased following the rain and flooding which had provided ideal breeding grounds for mozzies. There is more about precautions to take, cover up, spray etc.
I wouldn't want to be camping here at the moment either, the mozzies have come back since all the rain and flooding and fighting the locusts off for space. Can't walk out the door without spraying at the moment. Was good last week then back to crazy again.
Went over to Shepparton today, beautiful fine day with a bit of water on the side of road in one area and across the causeway (on side of road). No roads shut down and no major flooding. Lets see what happens on Sunday.

Waiting to see what tomorrow, Sunday , brings goinsoon. Supposed to be in for heavy rain but so far only very windy. Have a busy weekend so will get back with any news on Monday.
We were there In Oct after the floods and the Mozzies were amazingly bad then. You could not even go outside without being eaten. We didnt stay there long.
Yep, the mozzies are still bad, swatted a few just talking to the neighbour half an hour ago out at the back door. Go thorugh at least 2 cans fly spray a week spraying around the doors and windows area trying to keep them away from the house. I'm surprised no sign of the heavy rains they warned us about. A storm went through last night, galeforce winds lasted about 10 minutes. We are having our community Xmas Dinner tomorrow so hope the sun stays out.
The heavy rains have left their mark on much of the country it seems. SA suffered floods and associated heartache while the storms and downpours where on their way east. Main roads were cut by the flash floods, market gardens on the flood plains north of Adelaide suffered severe damage, some grain crops were spoiled, rolls of hay clogged culverts, and now everything is green. Since the severe storms there have been scattered showers and cool days and nights, with relatively strong winds. This wind has dried things out enough to allow the farmers to resume harvesting the lush, golden grain crops at top speed, day and night, while the air is dry. There hasn't been any formal estimation of probable damage, but it may be less than originally thought. Take precautions against the mozzies which bear dengue fever and swine flu virus. Now it's grasshoppers. I was in Gawler yesterday and they are everywhere, in every street and garden in town, and even in the shopping centre car parks. Such a pest and they do serious damage to anything with foliage. All the best to everyone dealing with these natural dilemmas.

Heavy rains and hailstorm went through a while ago, very wet and miserable here now. In fact so cold I thought about putting the heating on but decided on socks instead.!!
Tomorrows paper should have some news of interest, if not may have to go for a drive. Will keep you informed.
Just travelled through from Bathurst (NSW) over a few days .. to Naracoorte (SA) .. arriving here on the 18th. A couple of brief storms (one with hail) but did not have to deviate from a main road to get past any flooded areas .. although there was some water over the road in Victoria .. But .. as Chris said .. LOCUSTS ! .. western Victoria right through to Naracoorte .. actually stopped (3) times to remove them ..
.. and where is this 'global warming'? .. last night was 7 degrees .. yeesh!! All my winter clothing had been stored away .. even had to sew up my 'y' fronts to keep warm .. !
I've heard musings by some, that the southern half of Oz is likely to receive ongoing inclement weather well into Feb/Mar of 2011 ..
cold here in tamworth to and wet had big storm last nite ..not sure how much rain we had ..windy too ..will make festival intresting here this year .. the river is up and down for last 3 months .....

I still haven't been to one of the Tamworth Festivals .. and had considered going in January .. but the 'wet' sort of made up my mind. Hopefully, it does dry out .. and that good weather is a blessing for you !
Down here half way between Melb and Adelaide it is still very very wet and windy as usual.....reckoning in the past couple days we have had close to 2 inches....not just rain but horizontal rain, no hail thankfully though.
To all of you heading out for the xmas break take it easy on the roads, the idiots are abundant at this time of year.

Todays paper. "River expected to Peak Today" with a photo of the water splashing just underneath the cabins at Maidens Inn caravan park in Moama. The article reads, No Fears from peak. The Murray River is expected to peak today but at a level less than first feared. The river is expected to peak at 93.1, a minor flood level for Moama and below minor level for Echuca. Some minor flooding is expected in rural areas of Moama. SES said "Its just the caravan parks we are keeping an eye on, but not expecting too many problems." The river is not expected to be closed at this stage. Not like last September, they are not getting the debris that came through in the initial flush.
I haven't heard any more of Rochester Caravan park and just haven't had time to go over and look for myself. Its still windy but no rain but quite cold.
We drove through Barmah today and wish we had our camera. The Murray was under a couple of permanent vans in the caravan park. Further towards Shepparton was a paddock full of water and cattle were grazing, would have been a great pic.
I haven't been down to Christies Beach (Echuca) and won't have time plus the road might shake my little car to bits, but I have been told by a reliable source, someone who has stayed there in the past that with all this wet weather it will be a quagmire down there and only suitable for 4 wheel drive. My friend says it is muddy and deep tracks that she couldn't get her campervan down to last time she came through so had to park out by the gate. That was a while ago but we have had a lot of rain of late so can imagine what it is like now. Not exactly a good place to stay till this area dries out.
