Re:snake warning.

G'day everyone, just a follow up to yesterdays post regarding snakes.
When travelling I always carry at least 2 compression bandages in a backpack for out walking, and on our trip through SA and Qld via Birdsville I wore long pants and sturdy work shoes all the time...........except at the end of a long tiring 42degree day on the Diamintina river when setting up camp when I "just had to change into shorts", the area just screamed "snakes live here" and despite bashing the ground with a long handled shovel when walking to the river I had a King Brown snake cross my boots in a hurry...........I had absolutely no idea it was there and it had me cold but I thank all the gods it had other idea's and left me to see another day.
A near fatal mistake was made in not continuing my normal day wear and carrying the first aid kit.
cheers,
Ozi2
